There was an absolutely beautiful one done on HFboards like a month or so ago. I'm trying to find it now....If I had photoshop skills I would but his face in the middle with Geno on the left and Sid on the right. Any takers?

^ Awesome. I probably had that in my subconscious. That image fits perfectly too with the height difference and Bernie/Kunitz's giant head.

It's tough to win playoff games with 2.5 NHL defensemen.

Not as gloriously large, but still.

That is f'in amazing and just perfect for so many reasons.(Kunitz Corpse)

And sooooo many generic, passenger forwards. I won't even make a list since everyone outside of Hornqvist has fit that bill at some point recently. Special shutout to Mike Spalding though, since he goes above and beyond to be forgettable. It's tough to win playoff games with 2.5 NHL defensemen.
Note that I spelled his name wrong on purpose because that's how much he means to me.

100% spot on. At no point did I feel that Penguins were the better team, would begin to dominate, or win the game. The relatively close play was misleading.this was like games 3 & 4 against boston. you look at the last 2 periods, and think we were onto something...but then you try to find an actual instance of a scoring chance, and you come up empty. the rangers backed off, but they still didn't give us anything substantial. it was just a bunch of patty cake. if we give up the first goal, it's going to be tough sledding.
also, glad to see no big mention of the refs yet. it's an established fact - there's a way to interfere that isn't going to get called. everyone knows it, but our guys are all pouty about it. the league will let you get in someone's way. they won't let you punch or slash people, and if you wipe someone out in a big way, you're going to get called. the stuff the rags got away with is the same stuff we would have (and did) get away with. we just happened to go the extra mile and got caught.
Other teams learn to interfere "within" the rules. Penguins get mad or give up. It's an organizational thing at this point. I really think they want to play a White Knight style of hockey.
Let's hope they find a way, regardless.

I was taught to properly cite.i'm the owner? wonderful. the last big discussion about this went over so well.Last night did nothing to dispel shmenguin's narrative on Crosby in the playoffs; largely because he's correct.

we also interfere within the rules. all the time. but we also aren't as good as other teams, so we look worse when it happens to us.100% spot on. Other teams play like they practice that kind of stuff. Red Wings just have to. I also think that the personnel we dress up isn't well fitted for rougher/dirtier game and I feel it's one of the big issues with this team.

Yeah, it was only 2-1 last night, mainly because Fleury made some big stops to keep it that way. There wasn't really a point at 2-1 where I was confident that they'd get the tying goal. MAYBE when they went on their one and only PP but I should know better based on the last 4 months of the season. And if Sid wants to play that spot in the center of the PP then he'd better shoot the damn puck instead of blind-flippering it to the opposite wing HOPING that Perron or Geno or whoever is in the exact position for the one-timer that will ultimately sail high and wide and scoot out of the zone. Kunitz is a waste of space but who else can you put in his spot and get more production out of? As for the defense situation, they were adequate but the Rangers were overpowering at times in grinding a cycle and making us chase. And someone brought it up in the GDT that was very valid -- by having zero threats to shoot from the blue line, it makes NYR's attempt to defend a whole lot easier.

My issues were with the forward group. Defense stood strong for the most part (except for that patented moment of head-in-the-clouds from Martin). Sid and Geno have to score. They're paid almost 20 million dollars. Sid only 1 shot on goal and Geno hasn't had a goal in 11 games. Party due to the BS wingers they have - minus Horny - but they have to find a way themselves or they're not worth the money.
Savran and Bourque brought up a good point today. Wings were outshot 14-46 by Tampa, yet Datsyuk scored 2 and Wings won. We need heroic efforts from our stars at heroic times.

Take it for what it's worth - DK said in his column today Geno is playing through "a significant amount of pain". Didn't say where the pain might be, and how it would be affecting him. Other than being painful.

He certainly does not look 100% out there...I give him credit for gutting it out...Take it for what it's worth - DK said in his column today Geno is playing though "a significant amount of pain". Didn't say where the pain might be, and how it would be effecting him. Other than being painful.

Even so, his effort level was through the roof and he was competing hard as hell. Great to see.

Cole = 1It's tough to win playoff games with 2.5 NHL defensemen.
Martin = .5
Scuderi's, Dumolin's, Chorney's and Lovejoy's lifeless bodies = .25 each?

... how is Martin half a defenseman? Because of 1 play?

(a) which led to a goal... how is Martin half a defenseman? Because of 1 play?
(b) he didn't look great the rest of the game
he turned over the puck at a pretty high rate yesterday

I broke that goal down in the GDT. It wasn't really his fault.(a) which led to a goal... how is Martin half a defenseman? Because of 1 play?

Sid was more to blame than Martin and Fleury.I broke that goal down in the GDT. It wasn't really his fault.(a) which led to a goal... how is Martin half a defenseman? Because of 1 play?

Maybe that's why he only played 3:42 in the first...

If Fleury gets a stick on that shot, instead of it getting into his pad, it's probably not a goal.Sid was more to blame than Martin and Fleury.I broke that goal down in the GDT. It wasn't really his fault.(a) which led to a goal... how is Martin half a defenseman? Because of 1 play?

Recorded the game and got up a bit earlie to watch the first period before heading to work. Totally gutted but not that surprised to see a goal being conceded 28 seconds in.
Haven't seen the whole game yet so can't really comment. Just hoping they can get the win in game 2.
