Maybe he was happy with HCMJ and wants to give him a second season.

Why? Because we have a coach.

You don't fire your coach simply to hire one who comes available, and you sure as hell don't interview a coach while one is under contract. If they feel Johnston is not the right coach moving forward, fine. Fire him. If they feel he did a good job with the cards he was dealt last season, fine. Keep him. There's no middle ground and there shouldn't be.

It seems pretty clear to me: they liked what they saw of Johnston's system and coaching skills when the team wasn't decimated by injuries. He is and should be going nowhere this summer.

Although people said the same thing about Bylsma's system. It's good if the Pens are healthy.

Zackly

Other than the lmao nature of Bylsma's teams' playoff losses, you could argue that since the Wings' last cup Babcock's teams were actually less successful than the Pens.

I don't claim to be any great hockey mind but I don't really get why he and Ken Holland are so highly thought of.

I just assumed that this was the case since they said Johnston was staying.

I look forward to Babcock going somewhere and not being the savior everyone expects him to be.

My money is on Toronto. And it will be an epic disaster because, well, Toronto...

Yeah, Toronto has always made the most sense...MLSE money, your family doesn't have to move from Michigan for you to work in Toronto...and a chance at personnel decisions if he so chooses to want a piece of that action...and it's likely the most prestigious job out there, toughest too because the Leafs are probably the only team with multiple national networks at their practices...

I really don't think there's a lot of appeal for him in Philadelphia...I'd think they'd be more likely to go after McLellan or Julien (if/when he is canned)...

Julien in Philly would help me condense dislike in 2 entities into one.

I wouldn't be surprised if he negotiated his way into being a coach and GM.

He has gone on record saying he doesn't want to be a GM.

Good to know, I think he ends up in Buffalo.
