False they've done it once in ten triesThe Caps would win a best of 7 series 9 times out of 10 against the Pens.

one thing that annoys/confuses me about people jumping to defend the Caps is that they seem to forget that this series didn't occur in a vacuum. Yes, the Caps outplayed the Pens. But this is not the first Caps failure ever in the playoffs. Ovie has NEVER made it past the second round.
I understand that any single player's impact is less in hockey more than other sports, but for a team to win three Presidents Trophies in the span of 8 years and fall on their face in the playoffs every time is laughable. You can't blame puck luck for every failure.
why do we play the game? Not to have more shots, or "outplay" the other team...we play to win the game

People forget, the Caps haven't been beyond the second round in the Ovechkin era.

I couldn't make it more than a couple of minutes, he had not moved on from shots when I x'd out.I didn't finish the video, but this shot obsession better be accompanied by the fact that holtby blows...which is kind of a big dealWorld class analysis. Looks at shot totals.

If every goal we scored was like the Orlov own goal, then there's a puck luck argument to be made. but when your goalie vomits everywhere, then shot totals become a less meaningful stat. It's not as much bad luck as it is your team is flawed.
not to say holtby categorically blows. but he blew in this series. which is a flaw, similar to how we couldn't get the puck out of our zone for 4 straight periods.

I just don't understand the idea that the Capitols outplayed the Penguins. You can probably make the case that they were better in game one, but lost. Not sure you want to say that about game 2. You can't take anything away from game three, I'm not sure how you make a case that they outplayed the pens in game 4, they had one great period in game 5, crushed game 6 (and won), and then were terribad in game 7.
I would say, for any seven game series against the pens, that the capitals cross check crosby in the face and make him miss 2 games, is 50/50.

what's the rush? i'm still enjoying the fact that we crushed their souls. i think i'll savor it for a while - particularly since this sens series isn't exactly a fun topic right now.The capitals are done. can we close this thread and move on to the Senators?

honestly, knocking out the Caps in the manner that we did is just as exciting as a Stanley Cup would be if we go all the way. Maybe it's too cruel to gain as much enjoyment as I am from other people's dismay, but it feels good to hear Caps fans cry

Pretty much. I am savoring it. I will still be sorely disappointed if we don't get out of this series, but once again, we did our duty.what's the rush? i'm still enjoying the fact that we crushed their souls. i think i'll savor it for a while - particularly since this sens series isn't exactly a fun topic right now.The capitals are done. can we close this thread and move on to the Senators?

Craps are yesterday's news. Savor their demise after the season ends, preferably with another Cup. I'm mystified that there are opinions that are meh about the result of the Senators series. As it says at the top of this page, you play to WIN the game and in this case, the game is the Cup and I've seen a number of people who feel like they won the first half and that's good enough for them.
