Theer are still a boatload of decent 4th line options available. No one is in a rush to sign them, so I think its too early to reach the same conclusion.

So, not to be a Debbie Downer, but our GM has let a ton of veterans walk today, and some were actually pretty productive in the scheme of things last season - so goals on the top 6 are great, but our bottom six just left.
i agree. we are looking a little reminiscent of the team that re-defined shallow 2 years ago...but with worse defense. better coach, at least.
Letang-Maata
Lovejoy-Cole
Pouliot-Scuds

I think we have better scoring and a better D corps.

That's kind of what I was trying to figure out in my post above. Sutter and Dupuis make for 2/3 of a decent 3rd line, but we're missing an entire 4th line and assuming Bennett can counted on to be useful in some capacity.
Even IF we think Rust or Farnham or Wilson or Megna or Bennet can contribute next year, we need a minimum of 3 NHL veteran signings. 2 if the Russian signs.

The Pens have about a dozen spots in WBS to fill. AHLers will be signed today.

Mikey, with your gigantic brain, do you have notes on the two kids from Toronto and Warsovsky?
Brief tidbits on Biggs and Erixon can be found in the Kessel thread.

Warsofsky is the Chorney replacement, but probably a little better skater. Better on his edges. Probably not gonna be a full time NHLer...

Pens also signed Kael Mouillierat. Good AHL scorer, nothing more.

Stempniak, Bergenheim, Santorelli, Fehr. Any of those guys is fine for a bottom six and I think they are all still out there.

Not a panic setting in, but there is a lot of work to be done. I just hope the 4th line options don't end up being all scrapheap kinds of guys signed in August.

Agreed -- I think they also need to bring in someone because Lovejoy/Cole pairing as your second pairing is frightening if that is where we are headed.

kessel will put up roughly neal-level production (a flat out .5 goal per game player). kunitz is also much, much worse. and our coaching skews towards defense. hard. we won't have better scoring than 2 years ago. and the d corps you listed is probably the worst we've had since before we were good again.

we need more to become competitive again. particularly since this doesn't address the hunger issue...metaphoric hunger. not ACTUAL hunger. we are now hungrier than ever in that regard.

I wouldn't mind seeing them sign Max Lapierre, and if the price is right, someone like Joel Ward.

It's not Martin/Ehrhoff, but I don't think it's as bad as you make it seem.

I think the Pens have enough youth (Sundqvist ,Wilson, Rust) that they only need one 4th-liner. That's fairly easy to find.

it's probably one of the worst in the league. certainly the worst out of any team claiming to be a contender.

Yeah but we also have added Perron and Hornqvist. We have a legit top 6 now. And lol @ the hunger comment

Megna gone to NYR. No great loss.

Eric Condra signed for $1.25 for 3 years in Tampa. He's a younger guy with some jam.
