No concerns about kessel being a dbag?
I have none. That Toronto media is off their rocker.

Got a text saying that TOR is picking up the 4mil bonus this year so his cap hit is 4.75 this year. Any truth to that?

The bonus does not change the cap hit in this instance.

Toronto paid his bonus on July 1st at noon, AIUI. However, the cap hit is not editable in that sense. They retained X dollars and that's that. Cap hit won't change year to year based on who is picking up the check.

They may have saved us some real dollars, but the cap hit is [Original cap hit] - [salary/cap retention by Toronto] = Our cap hit.

Thanks. It didn't sound right to me but my hockey "knowledge" begins and ends with the on ice product for the most part.

Does this mean Amanda Kessel will be in the crowd on a regular basis?

Rutherford defending kessel's roundness...
I do think guys that are in too good of shape are vulnerable to get injured
...someone spin this in a way that doesn't perpetuate the legend of Crazy Old Uncle Jimmy. Is there science behind this? Serious question.

The more I think about it, the more I love this trade. The big losses are Kap and the first rounder, but Toronto will be terrible again so the second round pick we get back won't be much worse than the first and Kap's ceiling isn't Kessel's.

Would've liked more salary retention but that's fine...

With Kunitz's untimely passing last year the Pens only had one competent scoring winger. Now they have two. This should work.

The Ghost of Chris Kunitz got ice time on the PP and next to Crosby mostly because there were no other options. Now there's another option. Who knows, maybe Beau Bennett will put it all toHAHAHAHAHAHA sorry.

More insight to the trade from DK:
Maatta was never discussed. Not for a second. Not with Toronto. Not with anyone. That’s what Rutherford told me after his press conference today, and I believe him completely.

“Olli, my God, no,” Rutherford said. “I honestly don’t even think of him as one of our young defensemen. He’s so advanced. He’s on our top pair with Kris Letang. No, no, no.”

To clarify, then, because all kinds of nonsense got floated leading up to the opening of free agency at noon, Maatta was neither offered nor sought by the Leafs, who were never given the opportunity to ask.

...

Scott Harrington, the defense prospect sent to Toronto along with Kasperi Kapanen, ranked no higher than fourth on the Penguins’ internal list for young defensemen, behind Maatta, Pouliot and Brian Dumoulin. It used to be the other way around between Harrington and Dumoulin, but I began hearing early last season that Dumoulin had stepped up — partly because of his being two years older and more mature, but also because of skating — and that was supported in the playoff series with the Rangers, when Dumoulin was used and Harrington scratched.

...

The Penguins, specifically Johnston and Rick Tocchet and pretty much all their predecessors, have scratched their heads forever about how to solve a man-advantage situation in which, no matter how they aligned their stars, the opposing penalty-killers would never take the left side seriously.

Well, not now. And not just because of Kessel’s aforementioned ability to one-time. It’s actually much more about his uncanny ability, perhaps better than anyone since Jaromir Jagr’s prime, to step off the boards, dart into the slot and create his own offense.
