I'm sure he'd have to write it down somewhere given how many pieces are involved...so, he's out right there...

Not much to not like. Our four worst contracts and a 1st for a 100 point defenseman... that's the net of it.

I wonder where the cap is. Wouldn't mind trading POJ or Smith and a pick for a 3rd pairing RHD now

Exactemundo. This trade is a win even if Karlsson plays like his worst for Sharks...

Makes the start of the season more watchable after the announcement of Jake having surgery if nothing else.

It became clear to me that this was inevitable when Carolina finalized the Deangelo deal.

My only concern is that the roster has some openings and there's no cap space to fill them unless Jake's LTIR helps

For example, we're at 12 forwards including both Nylander and Pitlick

Rem Pitlick (LW) - Skilled winger. Doesn't have a particular calling card though. He's not fast for his size, he's very easy to play against (hasn't thrown a hit in his career). He's a very selective shooter. Good quickness, but not super fast on the top end. Wish he was better on his edges like he was in junior. He can shoot it pretty well. He can actually one time pucks with some regularity, which is a little difficult for some players down the lineup. The problem with him is that he has no hook. He definitely has NHL hands, he has an NHL shot, but the rest of his game is really weak and he has no "B" game. He just doesn't do a lot of the little things that you'd like. Like, if he's the first guy in the zone - he won't drive to the far post, he'll kind of just sit for a bit and then widen out for a one-timer. He doesn't play through guys, he just plays to them. So his ability to retrieve and keep pucks in battle situations is negligible. He put on weight, but he's still not strong. He's definitely a guy that could play if he really became dedicated to being a guy that plays. Like, the Pitlicks are rink rats. They're always on the ice, but they're always working on the same thing: hands and shot. As dumb as it is to say, that's how bad players practice. That's why he keeps getting chances, but also keeps getting waived (and claimed)...he's talented enough, but is he good enough? He had one of the better USHL seasons that I've seen in 2016 (89 pts, second place in the league had 66). Worth a try because he costs little, and maybe we get some short-term Sheary value out of him or something.

Dillon Hamaliuk (LW/RW) - Injury prone big man. Only played a handful of ECHL games last year as a 2000 birthday. Basically a goon. He can't skate, he has average hockey sense at best, he's remarkably unskilled for a 2nd round pick (he literally pushes the puck ahead of him in the NZ at the ECHL level, it looks like the over 35 men's leagues)...but man does he hit and he hits hard. He can knock players off their wheels in positions where you normally can't. He won't play in the NHL, but he's good for the AHL because he can steal the other team's per diem and bring it back for the boys - so long Subway, hello Jersey Mike's!

I said this elsewhere on the internet today, but this is like when you start franchise mode in NHL and just take all the players you don't like, put them in a trade proposal, and it accrues enough of trade value to return a star player...this is wild. And we shaved off $3 million in cap space and, technically, got younger...

We're still old and over the cap...but ya know, less!

What's the salary cap situation now? We're still over but will Jake's LTIR put us under?

Good trade for now.
Cap situation is that we're at it.
Jake will let us exceed it until his return.
