I'd pay the arbitration award and reassess next summer.

Hagelin doesn't count because he is not a top-6 player. At all. He is a really good 3rd liner that can not transition upwards. Why doesn't Hagelin count?I realize that 3C is the most important position in all of hockey, but if you move Sheary who are the Pens top 6 LWs?Sheary at 4 million makes him expendable, maybe in a trade for that 3C. However Dumo is a must lock up, I'd prefer to see him get a 4 or 5 year deal at least.

My understanding is $3.5m plus a cap adjustment proration, so around $3.6m.Negative, captain. If it's above a certain AAV, teams have the right to walk...That's not how it works. If it goes to arbitration, the team wins, or he wins. He's a Pen either way. You don't get to say noIf Sheary gets $4m from arbitration I hope the team walks.
Hence my comment about walking away from $4m.

Sheary at $4M for one year is manageable, so I doubt they'd walk away from the arbitration, but that would likely ensure that 2018 is his last season on the Pens.

TIL that Gaborik still has a long ways to go on that contract.

It's odd looking at career earnings of "active" NHL players and seeing Chris Pronger with a coyotes logo next to him at #2.

His contract just ran out so he shouldn't be deemed as active.

It was by the end of the 2017 season, so if you were "active" in 2017, you were on the list. Well, him... not you.

Looking at Connor McDavid's cap hit and other big contracts, it's amazing how much of a bargain we are getting for Sid.

And Geno. Malkin and Sid's cap hit is about 18.2 mil combined.Looking at Connor McDavid's cap hit and other big contracts, it's amazing how much of a bargain we are getting for Sid.

Yep. Very tumescent.shmeguin has the boner for Sheary.
He had 2-3 weeks in the playoffs where he was dogshit. The rest of his time here, 4 mill is appropriate. And the dogshit weeks were chalked up to personal problems. When he came back, he did great. So maybe pro athletes are humans who can suck sometimes because they have a whole other life to deal with?
Or it's possible he just kinda lost it for a while and he might not ever get it back.
Either way, he's performed well. And this is the 2017 Cap. Not the 2006 cap. 4 mill isn't ziggy palffy money. We'll survive if he dips to the contributions of a lowlife 3.5 mill player.

Yes, it's imperative to keep realigning your sense of salary as the cap moves. I'd be fine with $3.5-$4 mil
