I'm a fan and, therefore, not obligated to view anything as just business; that's for the bean counters.

I'm trying not to be sour about it, because you gotta do what you think is best for you. But I was a little irked reading on the webs that he said he really wanted to stay in Pittsburgh, and he really loved it here, but... . The fact is, he really didn't love it enough and didn't want to stay that bad, or else he'd have worked out something; JR wasn't going to be unfair, and with how this team is injury-wise, he'd still have many opportunities to have a major role.I might be overplaying my hand on this, but Bonino being able to pivot that quickly leaves a bad taste and maybe I'm ok that world view being gone.
To be direct about: **** off and don't let the (cheesy country bar saloon) door hit you in the ass.

The media folks are going to be busy with all of the thank you video tributes this season.

Leadership can only get you so far. We have a hell of a lot of holes to fill right now thanks to all of this turnover, and it's a little worrisome.

It's really easy to sit here and say he doesn't love Pittsburgh because he took another deal. But how loyal would you be to a job you loved if another place offered potentially 25% more pay?

Rutherford made it very clear that the UFAs would be testing the market, which made it seem like he wasn't too worried about them leaving. I have no reason to distrust JR, but there is a reason why Carolina fans hate him.

If I'm Matt Cullen, there is no way I come back. I know how bummed out I get when the Pens get bounced from the playoffs. I can imagine the feeling is amplified by 1000000x as a player. He's coming off off back to back championships. Perfect way to call it a career. Go out leaving them wanting more.

At this point it seems more likely he signs with Minnesota.

He didn't sign until late July last year? (?)

Schultz re-signs. 3 years, 5.5 mil

I'll never understand what would compel a civilian to make a comment like that. What are you up to

People turned on Rutherford when he traded a guy who will never play for a 4th liner. The idiocy and short memories of fans never surprise me.

I needed a minute to even remember who he traded.

I think that's an argument that is less apropos when someone is making millions vs. when someone is making, for example, regular John or Jane Doe money. I can only answer your question by speaking from experience: I regretted jumping for money once, and at a different time, even took a major (like 50%) pay cut in favor of being happy.ExactlyIt's really easy to sit here and say he doesn't love Pittsburgh because he took another deal. I hope he's happy in Nashville and does well in his larger role--except vs. the Pens, of course. Although Nashville? Too soon, Bones. Ugh.
Anyway, it's done, it's Bones' prerogative, and good for him. He earned it. I just find the farewell song and violins quite disingenuous.

Pens remain patient on finding a center
Rowney could fill the fourth line center role. But that means the team still needs a pivot on the third line. But Pittsburgh feels it is important not to overpay for a center. In fact, the team is willing to start the season without adding a center if it comes to that.
"It's important now not to panic and go after somebody just to say that we got a center," Rutherford said. "I've talked to the coach (Mike Sullivan) about this. He said as long as I've got my two big guys healthy (Crosby and Malkin) I can work around anything early in the season."
Sullivan would have to be very creative with his roster in that scenario, but the Pens will remain patient with their process.
"We'll move on one when we're comfortable with somebody that we like," Rutherford said. "It could be in the next day. It could take us a couple of months. It could take us early in the season before it happens."

"Pitt's a college." What? Is that a thing, objecting to calling Pittsburgh Pitt?
"You were never a Pittsburgher." Right. Part of the sadness of seeing Bonino leave is that some thought he had become one.

I think it is even more appropriate. These guys only have so many years till their career is over, especially guys of his skill set. It's not like guys like bonino are going to get huge marketing and endorsement deals when their career is over.
