These things may not matter on the scoreboard but I also watch sports to be entertained. And seeing someone I don't like going through physical discomfort is entertaining to me. I don't like when the circus comes to town and our top 6 is in the crowd. But I quite enjoy it when it's the bottom of our lineup...under most conditions.

This is how I feel. I feel like a lot of people criticizing this deal keep saying "IT'S BEEN PROVEN THAT ENFORCERS DON'T DETER BLAH BLAH BLAH". Well...no sht. That's not what I expect him to bring to the table necessarily. As you mentioned, sure we've been successful, but it's still annoying seeing our guys get thrown around like rag dolls.

Hits and chasing after hits don't win games, either. Just ask Columbus, Washington (x2), San Jose, et al how that strategy worked.

Callahan's on my list, but he's still below Dubinsky, Wilson, and the entire Flyers organization.

Edit: Reaves can start the season off right by running Schenn into the upper bowl for the home opener.

If I were a defenseman, I would not like to be hit by Reaves every time I pick up the puck in the corner during a 7-game-series...

I still wait for a team to employ three fast skating, heavy hitting, giants on their 4th line with the sole purpose of wearing the other team down

They weren't "giants" per se, but Matt Martin-Casey Cizikas-Cal Clutterbuck was kind of like that...Martin is a big dude, like Reaves...Cizikas is really strong, he was a lacrosse kid, I think he once killed a guy by accident too, and we all know Cluckerbucket and what he can do...

Out could also may something mental for the stars. Maybe Crosby will be "happier" knowing that the team got someone like this and that someone on the teamis willing to stand up for him.

I think I love this trade because it ruffled so many feathers within the advanced analytics community.

One roster spot isn't going to kill the team, it's not going to slow them down overall - and it's not like Sullivan wouldn't replace Reaves if need be depending on series.

I think this is a solid case of people getting wrapped up in stats over what the stars on the team think of this trade, as well as lockerroom type stuff.

Exactly. Like I said if what they preached mattered so much the Penguins would have been gone in April.

I really think thats a huge part of it. They were all Botterill fan boys and are freaking out that the first move after he's gone Rutherford isn't going by the charts and graphs. I've seen one or two of them pretty much state that. It's no coincidence that the ALL HATE physical hockey players.

Nah, nah, nah, that was just two months of being lucky and statistical noise...

Instead of cycling, Reaves can take wrist shots from the right wing boards or as soon as he crosses the blueline...that will bump up his shot attempts...

I just wish NHL.com or someone would release an article that just shows how far beyond shots+missed shots they are in the analytics community...just so people can re-purpose their lives/blogs towards something more useful...

Maybe the real analytics (not shots+missed shots, which is not "advanced" in any way) show how effective he is and it's a pro-analytics move...proprietary information > public information when it comes to this kind of thing...

Shots+blocked shots was made public because it was no longer useful to teams...that had already become stale...

Long line of this: individual shot counts, ice time, plus/minus, efficiency/save pct. -- all "advanced" stats, proprietary at one time...released to the public after clubs moved on...
