Pickering's team was eliminated on Friday (by Yager and swift current). Is he going to join WBS on an ATO?

He is already signed to an ELC, right? So I think he will just join the club, if they have any games left...

I was surprised to hear that they got eliminated...they won their first five games of the postseason, sweeping their first opponent and got up 1-0 on Moose Jaw...then promptly lost four in a row. Though, to be fair, Moose Jaw finished ahead of them (Swift Current) in the standings...
The season is over in the AHL, so I don't know if Pickering can play or not to be honest...
Maybe I'll try to catch one of these games...

Well, they have our boy Brandon Yager...he's only behind Jagger Firkus in playoff goals on that team.
But Moose Jaw has: Yager (14th overall), Firkus (35th overall, he led the Dub in points this year), Savoie (9th overall), Mateychuk (12th overall, who has been playing in the WHL since he was like 11 years old - he's also Pickering's cousin)...plus three other later picks.
They're a bit of wagoooooon...

Is Yager's performance this year legit or a product of being a cog in said wagon?

Even if he is a cog in the wheel, I don’t think this is a Luca Caputi thing. He’s still only 17 I believe so he’s far from an over ager. He’s put up alot of points and is performing well under pressure in the playoffs. I clearly haven’t watched any games but it looks like he was the number 1 star a few times this series alone

Oops I mixed up the teams.
But doesn't Pickering have to be on an ATO so that the slide rule doesn't get affected?
Idk... rules about who can play in the AHL and when and what impact it has on contracts is a black box for me

No, the slide rule is only for NHL games when you're in your junior years...but I'm also doing all of this off memory from a CBA that's been twice altered, so I'd only give me "things said at a bar" level belief haha

I tried to research and can't find a clear cut answer anywhere but here's what I've been able to deduce.
1. You can join at the end of your junior season if you're under contract. Won't count as burning a year if you don't play in the NHL. This includes AHL playoff eligibility. And it includes guys that will go back to juniors next year (Pickering played 8 games last year).
2. You can join on an ATO if you sign after your NCAA season ends. Eligible for playoffs. Doesn't burn a year.
So for our guys:
-Pickering can go to WBS and play playoff games
-Broz can play WBS playoff games
-Yager can sign ELC after/if his season ends and play on an ATO as well
-Yager can also play in WBS next year despite still being eligible for juniors because he completed 4 years in the CHL

hockey has such a complex system for prospects. I understand it probably exists for a reason but it feels so difficult for a layperson to comprehend without it being ELI5'd

who are they referring to as “backkkk [sic]” in this context? WBS in the playoffs? The NHL guys like Puusy? If the latter than I hope they’re not including “””Big Z””” in that because no one cares about him
