Absent some breakout by Malcolm Nunez (if he's still even in the organization anymore), Rowdy isn't blocking anyone.
When Grandal is in there, that means that Davis probably isn't. That's going to highlight all his crappy at bats. I also think Rowdy is going to hit home runs at a respectable clip.
And I think Olivares is just like a completely hollow .750 OPS guys. Where you are asking yourself, how is a prototypical #8 hitter your starting right fielder?

I was looking up an old Clemson player from a few years ago - Seth Beer. He was a corner outfielder, big HR hitter, drafted in the first round by the Astros, and was in a trade for Zach Greinke to the Diamondbacks. The bat never got going and has been mostly a DH and very occasional 1B in the minors. I was shocked to see he had been drafted by the Pirates back in December for the Rule 5 draft. I don't see him on any MLB spring training roster. Must be AAA fodder, right? I don't think he's an MLB player unfortunately.
It's kind of fun to track these college players. I used to go to all of my previous employer's home baseball games. This was D2, and the team was (and still is) pretty mediocre. As was most of their competition. But I remember a player that generated a lot of buzz to the point we had MLB scouts at our terrible little stadium. That was really cool. The kid got drafted by the Cubs and I tracked his career up through AA, where he just disappeared into the ether a few years into his career.

Beer is getting some run in spring training. He’s had 4 at bats so far.

He was drafted in the minor league portion of the rule v draft.
For context, that’s how we ended up with palacios last year. And also where teams have been plundering the pirates the last two years. Some random ass player may turn up in the big leagues we’ve never heard of that came from the pirates organization.

Really don't like the chatter that Davis may start in the minors.

He’d need to sign a contract to play in the majors.
It would be idiotic for the pirates to burn a year of control for PR reasons

I think falter is trash and already out of the mix for a spot.
Roansy and Perez are both start of the season locks.
Marco might also be trash, and while slated to start in the rotation, pitch his way out the league quickly.
Jones and Skenes will be in the rotation by June.
Just not sure who the 5th starter out of Bradenton is, maybe a priester Ortiz piggyback game once a week?

Eric Lauer LHP minor league deal
Seems about as good as the 2 "big" starters they got to fix the rotation holes. Has a fastball that gets whiffs. Good signing if he can recover from last year's injury and performance

One of the best mic'd ups I've ever heard with Rowdy Tellez in today's game. Dammit I already like him
