Headed to Emerald Isle next week, first time in 4 years. Except for a shark fishing expedition, no plans whatsoever except sitting on the beach and drinking.
We’re heading to pine knoll shores next week. Can’t wait. We pop into Emerald Isle a night or two to grab dinner and my kiddo loves walking the fishing piers and chatting with all the people fishing.

Enjoy your time there.

Nice! You too!

We'll probably go out to one nice dinner, also there's a good pizza spot in EI that we'll probably hit one night.

Big fan of Emerald Isle, Pine Knoll Shores, etc. Haven't been there in years, sadly, because we live near a beach. Supposedly.

Which pizza place @RonnieFranchise ? Back in the '90s we used to go to Michaelangelo's, but that doesn't have great reviews these days.

Also looks like there's a Publix on EI now - grab some of their subs for dinner one night. Chicken Tenders sub is excellent and obviously kid friendly. Bakery is great too.

Lazzara's is the one we like. Yes there's a Publix now, it opened in 2017 or so, We first went there in 2018 and it was open then.

Last we were there was August, 2020 so peak COVID. Will be glad to be back there during "normal" times again.

We’re planning a boating trip followed by lunch in Beaufort, a dinner in Atlantic beach, a dinner in Emerald Isle, and the rest eating at the townhouse.

Any recommendations are more than welcome.

We always ate at Clawson's in Beaufort, but it's been a few years.

Weather wreaking havoc on our return from Jamaica. We at least made it to charlotte on time but our flight back to Pittsburgh has been delayed twice and now isn’t leaving till after midnight.
good thing you weren't on Spirit:

Lol. I know these things can happen on any airline, but I wouldn’t fly spirit if you paid me.

Seems like it might have been a case of miscommunication between the pilots and the cabin crew, or confusion by the pilots, or the pilots misspeaking. According to the Aviation Herald, the issue was an ECAM warning that one of the over-wing exit doors wasn't sealed, which if accurate would present a pressurization issue. The aircraft, however, seemed to be holding pressure when they leveled off at 5,000 feet, but out of caution they decided to return to Montego Bay. It wasn't anything that would have affected the ability of the aircraft to stay flying.

The aircraft is still in Jamaica. I imagine that it probably took like 15 minutes to check the exit door, but it's taking hours and hours to re-pack all of the life vests that people pulled out.

I might be wrong, but I think there should be some cabin-pressure differential at that altitude? It would be small, but I think it might be detectable.

I'm not trying to catch you in a gotcha.

Cabin pressure altitude is about 8,000 feet. So the statement on its face doesn't really make sense as I see it. BUT, I don't know at what point during the flight that the cabin is pressurized so there could certainly be a differential at 5,000 feet. I know how to read cabin pressure gauges but do not know the procedure to pressurize a cabin.

~8,000ft is also about the same altitude where it is safe to engage in long flights in unpressurized planes. I assume that's probably not a coincidence.

I think the A320 series actually pressurizes slightly at takeoff and then gradually pressurizes during climb. Or at least I think that is what this Airbus publication is saying:

https://safetyfirst.airbus.com/app/them ... essure.pdf

Certainly, 5,000 ft. would not represent any sort of issue for the passengers, even if pressurization were not working entirely. They probably wouldn't even notice.

Lots of weird things about this story. I wonder if VASAviation can get ATC audio, because I'd really like to hear what the pilots were saying. I have a suspicion that the reporting may be inaccurate, maybe even the reports of pressurization problems.

We check in to our house in Emerald Isle today. Stayed in Greensboro last night.

Can’t check in till 4 so figured I’d look for a bbq spot on the way for lunch/dinner.

Had mot occurred to me that most small town local restaurants in the rural south are closed on Sunday :face:

When you rent a duplex on vacation I suppose you know you may have to deal with some noise or whatever from the people on the other side, but this is the first I’ve ever seen anyone set up a video screen and show movies on their deck. I just want to have a conversation, listen to the ocean, and watch the stars.

Smithsonian Zoo would be good.

Not sure how much they would get out of stuff on the Mall, but most of that is free.

If you haven't been in a while, pot is legal and abundantly smoked in public. Felt like I was at Dead show at times lol
