I have 6 weeks to go until my Fios contract is up. I got an offer from xfinity for performance 25 @29.99/m for the first year, 44.99/m after. I did a little research and it doesn't look like Pennsylvania has a data cap instituted yet. Can any yinz xfinity subscribers corroborate that Pittsburgh doesn't have the data cap?

SITREP

Got home last night and all through peak use hours had a stable speed of 40+ Mbps, which I think is about the max for a 2.4 GHz WiFi signal. Yay!

Then we fired up the picture box this morning and it was back under 10 Mbps. Boo!

I thought they were supposed to have TV deals for the Super Bowl. I think I'm stuck locking in that KS8000 at $900 if I don't want to wait another few months.

One good thing about our new house: Previous tenant/owner left behind some Logitech 5.1 THX computer speakers in one of the sheds out back. We will unpack the office and get all that ish set up this weekend, so I'll see if they work. He took the sub and the center speakers but left behind the four satellites. That might offset the leak over the downstairs bathroom that I discovered this morning as I was sitting there doing my thing.

Does anyone here own any Audio Engine products?
http://audioengineusa.com/

I'm looking at the wireless speakers, as I could run the output from my TV into the back and use Bluetooth to send audio from my PC.

danke

Looking into NHL.tv to tag along with my DirecTV Now account, since they've still not included Root in their package.

In the Pittsburgh market, so I'm looking for the DNS service to go with it. I've found both Unblock Us & Yonder.tv

Any suggestions or thoughts one way or another?

I can vouch for unblockus. Used it for two full seasons without any issues. Cheap service, easy to use, solid customer service, and walk through as on their site.

Do they unlock playoff games in the rounds that play through Root? I'm not worried once they get to NBCSN, as that comes with the DirecTV Now sub.

Yonder says they unlock all games - every playoff game included.

Yes, every game is unlocked even those exclusive to NBCSN and NHL Network since those games are not blacked out internationally.

I think a few years ago it was rounds 1-2, but last season I believe was only round 1, no?

Keep in mind that the NHL apps use geolocation on your iOS and Android devices, so if you plan on watching (or Chromecast/Fire) you won't be able to get around that with Unblock.us. However, watching via desktop PC (and then casting) to a TV seems to work fine.

All I had to do with unblockus is change the DNS settings on my router using their tutorials. Everything that was connected to the router worked.

Interesting... I was wondering why I couldn't watch the Pens games with the NHL app on my tablet, even though I was connected via a VPN. So, do you know if I turn off the geolocation, does the app just not work?

Welp, I got my new bill for Fios, and since my contract is ending it was $15 more. I called and now have internet only for $59 a month and no contract. I'll be taking my boxes to the store on bakery square this weekend.
Edit:so I signed a 2 year contract for internet only and it's 49.99/month for 25/25

Yes, that's exactly what happens. Same with MLB.TV Premium At Bat or whatever it's called. Blackouts are rare for the Pirates, however.

Help. Not for me, I love DirecTv.

Friend at work has her daughter pay for TV. 3 TV's in the house. Daughter said Sling is the way to save money over Spectrum Cable.

I asked if they can get what they get over the air content via a antenna. Not sure.

Is there a website that ranks streaming options? Content? Prices?

Would love all thoughts.

I was waiting for the new Samsung Q prices to come out and it looks like the cheapest 55" starts at $2500 which is way more than I'd like to pay for. I was pretty set on the Samsung 65KS8000 before, but wanted to see what the 2017 lineup brought in. For $1500, am I going to get a better 65" tv than the KS8000?

New house: bought
Space for a home theater: non-existent
Shmenguin: grumpy

However... we have a detached garage. @Miami Vice - how big a space do I need to build a worthwhile set up where putting a 5.1 or 7.1 sound system wouldn't be stupid?

These OTT television packages all have free trials. I believe Sling starts out the cheapest. you'll need some sort of box(roku, Fire Tv, Nvidia shield, Apple TV..etc)
That works with the service. You can try them all out.
I've been on Direct TV Now since launch, and it wasn't very good for the first month and a half. The last month and a half have been great, and I cut my tv package from Fios two weeks ago.
