I would argue the cheap shot on brown was the worst the NFL has to offer.

I think that the Shazier injury completely wiped out the normal 'bloodlust' that usually accompanies watching an NFL game. The perception of the hits made later in the game were all tinted with a feeling of the actual reality of the violence on display. You almost become numb to the speed and viciousness...until something like Shazier pinches you awake again.
I think that the strong commentary today is a result of witnessing something potentially tragic, then continuing to watch these men do what they do every week. Rational people realize that something like that can happen on any play...but it's easy to 'forget' that on a play-by-play basis.

Glasses are the key point here. They are apparently needed, as that was not a blindside hit. Photo evidence has been presented.

I never said it was a blindside hit (although the league disagrees). See my post on the previous page. His hit could have fallen under a handful of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.

Listen, I hate the Bengals, especially Burfict, as much as any Steeler fan. But that's a penalty 10/10.

I agree. Never mind the fact that it was against the dirtiest player in the League who will file this away for later reference.

I will walk back calling the hit itself dirty. But coupled with the taunting (and I note that flags did not come in until the taunting)..... you just can't do that in the 2017 NFL.

ok. but the punishment is an extra 15 and at most a small fine. a suspension that's related to treating 250lb grown men like toddlers is impossibly stupid.

Smith-Schuster took out Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict on a devastating crackback block and was flagged for taunting after the play. In a letter to the rookie receiver, Runyan made it clear the taunt played a role in the suspension.


"You are suspended for the dangerous and unsportsmanlike acts you committed during the fourth quarter of last night's game," Runyan wrote. "Specifically, with 7:10 remaining, on a passing play to a running back, you lined up a defender and delivered a violent and unnecessary blindside shot to his head and neck area. You then 'celebrated' the play by standing over him and taunting him. The contact you made with your opponent placed the opposing player at risk of serious injury and could have been avoided. Your conduct following the hit fell far below the high standards of sportsmanship expected of an NFL player."

Even though the word "blindside" is used, it wasn't the central theme in the suspension.

i didn't watch the game live, but we won. burfict was embarrassed. the bengals bengal'd themselves multiple times. and shazier will walk again.
