North Carolina town rejects solar farm on the basis that 'it would suck up all the energy from the sun'

There are folks in California opposed to wind turbines because it takes kinetic energy out of the atmosphere.

I'm opposed to wind farms because it kills thousands upon thousands of birds.

As does solar.
During the trial of the plant in September 2013, 34 dead birds were found at the plant, 15 of which had heavily burned feathers, which staff at the plant referred to as "streamers" because they were burned in flight by the intense radiation from the heliostat mirrors.[56] From February through June 2014, a team of biologists monitoring the number of bird deaths reported a total of 290.[57]

In addition to the birds, airline pilots have complained about the intense light that is produced from the reflections. This plant is so visible from the 15 Freeway heading into Nevada.

I don't care. Unless we want to open wildlife preservation areas and bird sanctuaries to development, then I'll consider it.

Don't care about what? My comprehension is lacking today.

Birds and how they fare with alternate energy. My point being there are places for things, and birds have special places. Unless the wind turbine is in their special place, I don't care. There is a lot of America, they can go somewhere else.

Though I don't care about the pilots, either. If you see something shiny on the earth, don't fly into it.

Birds and pilots were there first. They need to move that mass mirror out into the ocean where it belongs. 8-)

It isn't about them "flying" into the shiny object, and more so being blinded by it.

I get that. However, unless it's on approach it's a non-issue. Who flies while staring at a single spot on the ground? They're not dog fighting up there. At least I hope not.

We can't use coal forever, and if the NIMBY's keep suppressing the nuclear option you're going to have blind pilots and fried birds.

Why can't they just build nukes and be done with it?

I sat somewhat awkwardly for ~2 hours on Saturday night and my knee is freaking killing me. If I leave it bent for too long I'm more or less unable to walk.

I think it's a problem with my Osgood-Schlatters. Put too much stress on the bottom part of my patellar tendon, but man was it hard for me to walk at the arena after the game.
You are the only other person I have encountered in my life with O-S. Mine hit when I was 13-14, but it resolved naturally; I literally grew out of it.
I've never had problems with it until Saturday, even through repeatedly smacking it off the ground playing frisbee and hockey. Still have a noticeable bump under my right kneecap, which is where my pain is, so I guess that means I haven't grown out of it on that leg yet.

Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima - and the fact that the radioactive waste products remain hazardous for at least 15 MILLION years.

Three mile island wasn't near as bad as what is portrayed. Chernobyl was a disaster waiting to happen, same thing with Fukushima.

There's still the issue with nuclear waste, and it's not technically renewable. Nuclear is just a stopgap until something that's actually renewable becomes available.

edit: thought I was in the political thread... nevermind.
