A judge strongly admonished a 66-year-old man Friday before sentencing him to 25 years to life in prison for shooting and killing a woman who was a passenger in a car that mistakenly drove up his driveway in rural New York last year.
These incidents are becoming commonplace. A society full of armed idiots combined with plenty of fear stoking from years of Fox News poisoning made it inevitable.

I’ll be honest, I don’t really see the issue with the Kellogg guy. I mean of course it’s tone deaf but did we really expect any different? It’s in one of those dumb stock market shows (and I say “dumb” as someone who is relatively active in the stock market). Dude is gonna be pushing cereals to be eaten for 24 hours a day

is it possible to have any CEO on who makes more than a mill and it not be tone deaf?

So, your contention is “they’re all tone deaf and out of touch, so what’s the big deal?”

…yes? did you think someone who’s making millions of dollars a year would be in touch when the average salary in the US is $59k?

This would be funnier if the threat of a second Pissbaby term wasn't so realistic.

Oregon recriminializing small amounts of drugs. I do like some of the changes like instead of prison or a fine, if you call for rehab and rehabilitation it can wave those penalties. This also allows police to confiscate the drugs and bust dealers.

How is Rolling Stone the only publication that is picking up this story about the Trump WH running a pill mill for the staffers?

Just make sure that you quietly add "with Jon Stewart" at the end of that and you're good.

Reuters had it back in January, but I guess people have been too busy being concerned about Biden to report on the **** Trump is doing/has done.

But they want you to know Hunter Biden is the real addict

I was gonna joke that maybe Rolling Stone could do a list stack ranking the 100 worst addicts in the Trump White House, and then when I found the story on rs.com these were the top three "Editor's Picks":

The 250 Greatest Guitarists of All Time
The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time
The 50 Worst Decisions in Movie History

On-form

that story is just that there was a Pentagon report on their activities.

No follow up stories. The Rolling Stone is actually doing reporting, like what drugs were these people taking. Reuters just says "including controlled substances". RS reporting has them doing Xanax and some high powered narcotic that they give to military pilots.

Not a surprise. I do think you need a conviction of something to even start that discussion. Will be interesting to read the opinions.

States Rights unless we decide it isn't, and don't bother trying to figure out how that works because we don't know either.

(This is not a defense of, or argument against, the current ruling)

So the way that goes is Elon Musk could be put on the ballot in Texas for President, right? Where's the law activating the natural citizenship or age requirements?
I think I ride with tif on the argument that some qualifications have historically been "self-executing" without the need for separate legislation and that I'm not sure I completely agree with the idea that Section 3 isn't one of them.
The Kagan/Johnson opinion that points out the ridiculousness that you can pass a law specifying how to unqualify people with 51% of the Congress but that the amendment specifically states that 2/3rds of Congress can veto a members disqualification seems especially on point.

- Birth citizenship: You didn't have to 'do' anything, just show you were born within the correct geographic boundary;
- Citizenship: Stay in those boundaries for a while before the election;
- Age: Don't die.

You can argue that those qualifications are, on their face, sort of self-activating. But where I lose faith with the arguments re insurrection is in the verification of those other qualifications. If a state law has a procedure for determining if a birth certificate is valid (e.g. CERTIFICATE OF LIVE BIRTH), and that's fine and dandy for allowing a candidate on the ballot, what difference is it if the state also has a law that sets the process by which a disqualifying determination of insurrecty stuff is made? That's where I diverge.

I keep seeing things saying, but they left it to states or congress to pass a law saying they can be disqualified. Isn't there something already out there saying this? Is that anything? @Shyster
