hm

so I just talked to a recruiter who said a company in Aiken, SC was "blown away" by my resume, which is weird because my resume isn't exactly amazing (1 year professional experience, an internship and a physics degree...).

anyway, he said the company was willing to hire me after one phone interview and would offer $40/hr, which is more than I make right now in NYC.

this feels like a "they lost a bet so they have to take me to the prom" type a deal
Don't let the jaded cynics here hold you back. I'm sure this is legit and will be a dream come true.

This reminds me of when I moved to California and was blown away by how the awesome cars on Craigslist were so affordable.

Has anyone ever lost their license plate? Mine must have flew off today on my way home from work. I'm not sure if I should report it missing or just go get a new one... State of PA if anyone's curious.

When I got my car, it only had one plate; there was a dealer plate on the front. After driving it for like six years, I decided to get one of those quasi-vanity plates where you donate money to an eco fund and you get a plate with a whale on it. When the new plates arrived, I took the dealer tag off....... and revealed the second license plate. I didn't realize the dealer tag was just a piece of paper that went over the metal plate.

Yahoo.

Someone could have stolen it. It happens more often than you think.

Parents of Factorial and Columbia live in Aiken, SC and just to warn you it is not very exciting there. There is some old money so polo and horses are big, lots of retirees, the bomb factory, and then lots of poor people. I wonder if this job is in some way tied to that bomb factory which could explain them liking your physics background:

Bomb Factory sounds like a cool name for a night club.

MIMH, I did think of a plus to Aiken. "The Refrigerator" William Perry lives there in a "sticks out like a sore thumb" house right across the street from a car salvage business near the Aiken exit of I-20.

Well, the screws are still there. Like it was ripped off without removing them. And my wife informed me today that she saw it hanging by one screw this morning (thanks babe!)

There aren't many people who tell that story and your response is "yeah, that probably did happen", but mac is one of them.

Hello. I've been on a little vacation.

So my mom and I take the bird out today. He's sitting on her shoulder. Someone opens the door next to us and the door squeaks. The bird gets scared. The bird flies off almost an entire block. Sits on top of a tree. We go to the police. They bring a fire truck. The fireman tries to get him down but the bird gets scared and flies off to another tree, a much taller tree, where sits at the top about 10-12 feet over the telephone pole (cop and fire people say they can't help, it's too high). He sits there half a day. Tries to get down a while ago, I guess, a small branch breaks under him and he flies back to the smaller tree. So he's still sitting there now. I'll try again in an hour and then in the morning - maybe he'll be starving by then. It's been like this since 1pm.

We were going to either clip his wings or preferably get him a parrot harness/leash, but never got to it.

Every mac question is either easily googled or not entirely believable... or both.

I've had a few to drink, but if memory serves, most mac questions one on way opposite ends of the spectrum... either you can google and find an answer in 3 seconds, or it's so outrageous that I'm not entirely sure if it's an actual real situation.
