We ended up going through the entire Scream series after watching the first. The 2nd is not bad, the 3rd is awful, and I thought the 4th one that came a decade later was pretty good too. Nothing touches the original though.

We also watched The Strangers last night with Liv Tyler? I feel like I've seen it before, but I thought it was good, and those movies tend to mess with me alot more than slashers do because of the realness. My wife was checking all the rooms in the house before we went to bed last night haha.
Agree on the Scream series. It's amazing what a hot mess 3 turned out to be. I'm looking forward to part 5 which should be out early next year.

You should check out Strangers 2. It's more of of a slasher but has some great 80s vibes. It's more "fun" and far less intense than the original.
Yeah I think Strangers 2 is streaming right now too... at least I think I saw it when flipping through things last night.

I put in a nice Amazon blu-ray/4k order today..

Black Christmas
Silent Night, Deadly Night
Last House on the Left (original)
Psycho (original) 4k
Sleepaway Camp
My Bloody Valentine (original)
Get Out (4k)

Every one of those are terrific flicks. I love showing Sleepaway Camp to people who have never seen it and watching their reaction to the ending.

My wife has seen none of them.. I've seen them all (though not super recently) except for Get Out. I always love watching her reaction to things haha. She sits through these for me at Halloween because she knows I love horror movies.

Unexpected Pete Holmes.
And Rob Delaney. I would watch a home alone movie ala step brothers with those two.

And apparently we'll just use the same script as the original

I watched half of that trailer. The Mom really nailed down the "I royally **** up in a nearly criminal way but I'm going to blame it on you, gate person" vibe that I always hated about the original.

Indeed. Mac is apparently making a cameo as well.

Sure is. Have you ever seen Blue Ruin? He has a memorable, small role in it.

I watched The Strangers once and that was enough for me. Gimme a lifetime of slasher movies before a **** home invasion thriller.
:fist:

Completely agree. Stuff that involves families/couples being killed/tortured etc. in their own homes, no thanks.

Strangers is truly terrifying. I haven't seen Strangers 2 and I don't plan on it. My assumption is that it expands the antagonists' characters, maybe even offering a explanation as to why they enjoy infiltrating homes and killing folks. The original film already gave the perfect explanation for the "why" question. "Because you were home."

It was obviously super popular and made a **** ton of money considering the budget, but just leave it at that. Not everything needs to be a franchise.

I enjoyed the Strangers because it was so visceral and grounded in reality. I also enjoyed it because of the "non-happy" ending.. at least for the most part.

Strangers 2 is dumb fun. It can't hold a candle to the original, but it has two really terrific set pieces.

I've never heard of The Strangers. *checks*

Liv Tyler?

Are we talking about the same movie? Liv Tyler isn't really cut out for being in the same sentence with 'good.'

Check it out. For best results, watch it with the wife and turn the lights out. My wife hates it so much but still insists on watching it every October.

Liv Tyler plays her role well. It's not oscar winning or anything, but the whole mood of the movie is just top notch.
