Why the **** would you have an automated tweet for that?
A Caltech employee was attempting to correct the location of the 1925 event to more precisely pinpoint the epicenter, and accidentally sent out an alert to USGS that flagged it as a new event rather than an update to something that happened 90+ years ago. USGS then sent out an auto-tweet, and in response, several news outlets auto-tweeted the USGS tweet.

That clears up the earlier discussion: the Cal Tech person clearly didn't have smart parents.

I'm a nurture guy. Given the opportunities, exposure, and proper upbringing, most people could attain the profession they want.

Why exactly should a church be tax exempt if they will outright refuse to feed the hungry and shelter the homeless?
How many homeless folks are you currently sheltering in your home?
If I take one or two in, can I be tax exempt?
Why should you need tax-exemption to help the homeless?

Because, let's be honest.

You applaud the punitive aspects of this obviously unconstitutional law, because it would help destroy those whom you do not like.

You pretty much described every Republican voter

I'm guessing the answer to your question somehow doesn't apply to the reasons proffered for why churches are tax-exempt.

So Rand Paul and the faux William Buckley contingent in the senate has come out against the bill. Smart move on their part to come out ahead of the moderates in opposition. So now they'll get to push the bill in their direction while the wishy-washy senators from blue or purple states get dragged into the vote.

Circling back to this, because I'm surprised you think this is so crazy... Do you basically think that each person has a "ceiling" job then? Say you have an IQ of 95, does that mean you could never be in an administrative position? Or work as a computer engineer? Or a doctor? If so, then we should just track everyone's IQ and save people a lot of time and money and eliminate what jobs they are not fit for, IQ-wise.
To some extent, we have this already. The ceiling is set by whether someone can pass the coursework or training necessary to attain the job to begin with. For example, I see that Pitt publishes its electrical engineering curriculum. In the first two years, a candidate for an EE degree has to take three terms of "Analytic Geometry and Calculus," one term of "Differential Equations," and two terms of "Basic Physics for Science and Engineering." In essence, those classes serve as a "ceiling" to weed out people who lack the capability to handle the math and physics that are inherent in being an EE. Likewise, classes like biochemistry, organic chemistry, physics, and calculus would serve the same function for would-be doctors. Pitt Med requires applicants to the school to have all taken a year of biology (with lab), a year of general or inorganic chemistry (with lab), a year of organic chemistry (with lab), a year of physics (with lab), and a year of English writing, and furthermore a "strong background in mathematics is recommended." It is unlikely that someone with a below-average IQ would be able to become a doctor because someone with a below-average IQ is unlikely to have the ability to pass those pre-med classes with grades high enough to get subsequently admitted into med school.

There might be nothing else more disgusting and frustrating in the world knowing that police and prosecutors have little to no accountability for ruining or ending the lives of innocent people.

I know someone who was recently arrested because of a false police report, they even had exculpatory video evidence and cooperated with police but they didn't care. Its just a sad reality when you realize how fragile your freedom is. You better not be poor and you better have friends that can bail you out because you never know when johnny law is going to target you.

Just days after a judge declared a mistrial in Bill Cosby’s sexual assault case, his publicists have revealed what he plans to do next — a national tour educating young people on sexual assault, specifically, on how to avoid getting accused of sexual assault.

“Mr. Cosby wants to get back to work,” spokesman Andrew Wyatt told an Alabama TV anchor Wednesday morning. “We are now planning town halls.”

What really annoys me about the healthcare debate:

Why don't any of the "free market" people stand up and point to that decoupling healthcare from employment would be a boon for competing in a global economy? Like this legacy pension plans for automakers and state government employees, it's an anchor around our necks. If patients are actually bearing the real cost of insurance and care, costs will go down. At least that's the free markets theory.....or does that only work in dorm room discussions. :pop:

i dont think breaking up ESI will help americans be more economic consumers of health care. people that enroll through the exchanges get plenty of unnecessary care because it is a minimal financial impact to them

Sure. It's a distorted market and will never be efficient on its own. However, people aren't willing to admit that.

Single payer is the only rational way to approach it.
