That’s a really nice set, but outside of the sentimental value, I very much prefer the controls on this one. Steering wheel for the throttle, forward and reverse, and a brake function.

Test drove the Ioniq 6 last night. A lot of fun. Definitely giving it the old consideration

This and the 5 are on our list. Not sure we are ready to go fully electric yet, as having a small SUV like a Rav4 or CRV would allow us to take longer trips without taking the bigger vehicle vs having a sedan. And the hybrid versions of those two have very good mileage/ratings.Test drove the Ioniq 6 last night. A lot of fun. Definitely giving it the old consideration

I was considering the 5, but just wasn't quite ready for the full electric. The 5 was just as big as a small SUV on the inside. I was surprised with how roomy it was. Hopefully the 6 maintains that.

It seems the 6 is the sportier version of the 5, which is probably why I'd lean towards the 5. We'd want something more like an SUV to fit 5 people.

I was hoping to get through the winter without needing to work on my Elantra at all, but damn it if a rear caliper didn't seize up. ***** couldn't wait until after I ditched it.

I'd replace it yourself to save the cost of labor, honestly. Rockauto is your friend here.

Oh for sure. Parts are already on the way. It never ceases to amaze me how much more affordable Rock Auto is compared to AutoZone or Advanced. The chain stores mark everything up to insane levels.

I usually buy at the chain and return to the chain once rock auto delivers it...lol

I think the Ioniq6 could fit 5 as easily as the Ioniq5 could. I was insanely comfortable while driving and there felt to just be a general openness in the cabin. It could easily become my daily/only car.

The 6 def looks nicer than the 5.
I'm also intrigued by EV's since my new employer has charging stations. We also have 240V coming into our house and nothing that uses it, so it'll probably be a few hundred to put in a Level 2 charger.

Coworker of mine who is a big car guy gave a big NO to the Ioniq's. Said there is an ongoing lawsuit against them. Guess that changes my mindI think the Ioniq6 could fit 5 as easily as the Ioniq5 could. I was insanely comfortable while driving and there felt to just be a general openness in the cabin. And to add a little bit of excitement to my car search, the UAW is getting to go on strike. It shouldn't affect what I'm looking for, but there could be a trickle down effect if the strike goes on too long.

Ah, bugger. The GTI was my primary option for a manual-transmission hatchback whenever I need a new car.

VW has become lame. The Jetta is their last manual if that continues using it.

I still sing this jingle to myself when I'm driving alone...... "Kleiner GTI, du siehst prima aus........Ich liebe dich zu fahren......" and then I can't make out any of the rest of it, so I just repeat that over and over again.

Tis apparently the month of car repairs. Got my Elantra fixed up on Monday, and now the Forester needs control arms.

My sister has been driving my parents' 2014 X5 around because her own car's A/C broke. Of course, it died on her way home and she had it towed to a family friend that owns a performance car repair shop (this guy works on European cars exclusively, and it's not unheard of him to have multiple supercars in the bays. Pretty cool place). It looks like the shop my parents were using was taking advantage of them, although I'm not sure what exactly they were doing. I'll get more details today, but something about a Jerry (lol) rigged oil cap.
Anyway, we'll need to get $3000 worth of repairs on multiple oil leaks including multiple new gaskets (oil pan, valve cover), new valve cover, and the rear main seal is leaking. Then add an alternator to that bill.
The mechanic called my sister and was very upset at the condition of the car. I know mechanics get territorial, especially high end car mechanics, but this was beyond that my sister said.
Anyway, we'll have the car repaired and then we'll get rid of it. None of us have time or money to keep that thing on the road. It's a shame because we'll be in the market for a fourth car soon, but I don't want to drive that around. It's still worth about $13-15K with the relatively low miles they have on it. Not too shabby.

We've been talking a bit about Polestar as a luxury or semi-luxury EV brand. And I forgot to bring this one up:
Polestar 4
I think it a fantastic looking thing, and starting at $60,000 it is not as onerously priced as the other models in the line.
BUT IT HAS NO REAR WINDOOW
Rearward viz is supplied 100% by cameras that display picture info into the rearview mirror. I don't understand how that is a legal thing you can do in a passenger car.

The front looks like a prettied up Tesla; pass.
Cars & Bikes, Driving & Riding
Rearward viz has been not necessary for a long time. I think rearview mirror camera is awesome. That way people can have their high beams blinding everyone, but I will be fine. Do it for the side windows and the front windshield too please
