Cars & Bikes, Driving & Riding

I'm currently waiting for the Mazda3 of my dreams to become available, but I decided to sort of dork around on CarMax and see what's available at my budget rather than fixating on a particular vehicle. Turns out, there are some decent rides that can be had for $20k-$25k.

Thoughts on the BMW X1? We already have an SUV, but I've read some reviews of the X1 saying the best way to think of the car is as a large wagon or hatchback rather than a small SUV. I don't not like the look, but I'm not exactly wowed by it either.
we test drove a new x1 when my wife was looking for a new vehicle. the back seat is an embarrassment. i'm about 6'2 and couldn't fit comfortably on a ride more than 20 min. it was remarkably fun to drive. very nimble, great pick up. neat car

Is that before or after the $1200 in repairs?

That was as-is, I didn't get the car fixed.

And the internet lied to me; I searched using a credit card to make a car down payment, and saw that Car Max was cool with that. Well, not the one in Burbank. Not being able to use a credit card 1) robbed me a sweet bump in my rewards points, and 2) cut my down payment amount to 40% of what I was planing. That resulted in a $600 increase the total financed value of the loan, which means I effectively got $100 for my Celica. Woooooot.

Heck, the catalytic converter is worth at least $50.

They probably thought your old car sitting in the driveway was bringing down the property values in the neighborhood. ;)

100% fact. It's the water/water vapor that can freeze up, not the actual fuel.

The 2017 Corvette GS looks pretty slick, too (though I still hate the rear end and interior).

I find the two-tone scheme distracting, but overall that's a great shape. The air scoops on the side are reminiscent of the new NSX; is the Lambo turbocharged?

Nope. 770 HP by way of a V12.

I'm an Acura guy myself and have always loved the older NSX's. Despite Acura's new headlight design, which I'm not fond of, I love the new NSX.

I saw a prototype at the L.A. Auto Show a couple months ago. It's rolling mouth sex.

Leno doesn't appeal to me much at all, but this channel is fun to watch cos most of the street driving scenes are shot within a mile or so radius of my office. I saw them out and about filming the Jaguar XJ220 episode not too long ago.

I've actually seen bits of that video (on mute, of course).

On a related note, does anyone have any type of garage tile in their garage? The epoxy coating on my garage floor is just about dead, and I was considering a tile as an alternative to re-epoxying the entire floor.

I thought the 3 in Mazda3 meant two doors and a hatch. The hell is that?

I had two Mazda3 hatchbacks back in the day (last one being an '04; the first year with HIDs). Fun little car. I'm glad that they changed the front end in recent years, because they destroyed it in 2010.
