My wife's new Accord has an auto engine stop feature that can't be disabled in one of the myriad of settings menus. So your car engine actually shuts off when your car is in drive but stopped, and it turns back on when you move your foot off the brake. Very unsettling, because it feels like you are stalled out like a manual transmission for a second. You can turn it off, but it has to be done each time you drive...annoying.

I hate that feature but it seems like Subaru is doing that now too. At least from 2020 forward. We have a two 2019's and they don't do it.

I don't like it either, mostly because it is disconcerting. I shut it off on rentals but if I owned a car that has it, I'd probably just get used to it eventually and not notice it anymore.

It's ridiculous, my wife's expedition has it too. IIRC, bearings in the idle-stop cars are designed for 3x the starts than normal cars. I don’t see how oil pressure would be an issue since the engine is literally off, and oil is already up to temp and flowing. The system doesn’t shut off in really cold weather, either.

Have you guys looked for hacks to disable the start/stop. I did a quick search and they are out there but maybe not for the most recent models. It's probably illegal and I suppose they could check for it on state inspections but I'd be tempted to do and maybe reverse it before the next year's inspection.

I usually keep mine on. The only time it bothers is when I'm deep in parkway traffic and going the stop/go thing every 10 seconds.

Mrs Tif had a fleet Camry hybrid like 10 years ago that had engine off. Took a while to get used to.
Also, with me resuming in-person work next month we have to go back to 2 vehicles. Mrs Tif has decided on a Merc GLA 250. My only contribution to the decision was the insistence that it had to be silver in color. But I pay off my car in the next couple months, so that's nice.

Toyota Made Its Key Fob Remote Start Into a Subscription Service
Any company that does this can get ****.A Toyota spokesperson confirmed to The Drive that if a 2018 or later Toyota is equipped with Toyota's Remote Connect functions, the vehicle must be enrolled in a valid subscription in order for the key fob to start the car remotely. To be clear, what we're talking about is the proximity-based RF remote start system, where you press a button on the fob to start the car while outside of it within a certain distance—say, from your front door to warm up your vehicle in the driveway on a cold morning before you get in. Your fob uses radio waves to communicate with the car, and no connection back to Toyota's servers is needed. But the function will not work without a larger Remote Connect subscription.

My ford pass app has remote control actions for free (for now I guess).
My sisters Yota requires a subscription for app remote start. I would be so mad if it was a subscription for the key fob lol.

Remote start was one of the few features that my car didn't come with, so my system is third party. But it uses the factory keyfob, which is why I went with it. I think I've used it a handful of times since buying a house with a 2-car garage.

Sitting at the Ford dealer right now because I have an FSA (recall) and needed an oil change. Told them when I scheduled the appointment to do the recall and an oil change, and again when I handed the service manager the key.
Do ya think the recall was done when I went to pay for the oil change? Nope. Had to ask a third time. But at least my tires are at 7/32nds..

So I may have bought a Subaru Vivio. Problem is I don't know if the seller is gonna let it go through.
In the listing, he said he wants 9k OBO. My bid was barely half of that. But he also didn't put a reserve on the car, so I don't know how this is going to play out.
