Is this one of those weird “back in my day…” things?

I mean if you like it, go for it. I’ll stick with the non-stick, thanks.
Kids these days...

I've driven both but prefer a manual. It's fun to drive one to me.

Sort of a back in my day, yes, because I learned on a manual (taught by my mother, who like my grandma also drove only manuals, ya nancy boys), and the first car I drove was a manual. Also, the second car I drove was a manual, the first car I bought myself was a manual, and the second car I bought myself (my current ride) is a manual. It's manuals all the way down.

Whoa, I thought I was the only one over the age of 30 who didn't care to drive stick. I owned a 5 speed S-10 for 3 years, and my wife had a Mazda 626 5 speed when we got married.

I do love watching The Amazing Race when youngsters go to South America or Europe and have to self-drive manual transmissions they can't drive lol.

That being said, if I were to get a classic car or truck, I'd probably have to go manual. 3 on the tree 60s or 70s C-10 would be pretty cool.

A CNN article that should warm the hearts of manual haters:

Opinion: The long overdue death of the stick shift car

Stick shift is more fun. When I am Palo Alto, I plan to get a stick to drive some. But reality, I will be just as happy getting paddle shifters and doing the same thing without the clutch.

None of us are manual haters, we just don't care. That's the difference. My TL-S has paddle shifters. I think I used them for a few weeks, then got bored since it was more of a novelty.

I don't hate cassette or CD players, I personally just don't want one in my car. Give me Bluetooth and Apple Car Play.

See I don't see the manual transmission as technological improvement. More like Betamax --> VHS.

Also, if you never learned to drive a manual then you don't have any experience to form an opinion between the two.

The manual transmission was a tremendous technological improvement over its predecessor, which would have been "no transmission." Because manuals predated automatics by decades. The first mass-produced automatic (GM's Hydramatic) didn't come along until 1939.

Huh, TIL that Ford bought Hydramatic transmissions for use in Lincolns from 1949 to 1954. I knew that Rolls-Royce and Bentley used GM transmissions for decades, but I didn't know that Ford once bought them.

I grew up on a farm driving the farm truck around… of course I can drive a stick… but times change and I don’t want to drive one now.

You associate it with unfun work. I get it.

FFS, this is why most of us can't stand the 'only manual' crowd. You enjoy stick shift, congrats, want a medal? Nobody else cares.

Manuals are fun, and I’d probably prefer one if there wasn’t a lot of city driving involved. But I’m also not gonna go out of my way to buy one.

MWB has the right take. I enjoy manuals as long as I’m not sitting in traffic every day. If you have one long enough, there’s no thought to the process, it becomes second nature.

Indeed, deploy the tool that fulfills your mission. 2 out of 5 of my cars are automatics. One of them is a 1-speed. They all serve their roles well.

Not sure where the anger is coming from.

Right? I"m picturing NTP66 in traffic, peering into the car next to them just to make sure "that mother **** isn't one of those ***** driving with three pedals."
