I like Beck better, but we had a Cake song as a part of our wedding, so both.

How is this even a question? Beck is far superior to Cake the band. Now if we are talking about cake the dessert, well then there is a case for a discussion.

It was the song playing while the DJ introduced our parents and the bridal party.

I get the feeling that a lot of times when people say xyz is the 'song of their lives', they really mean the song title of their lives. Like how when my ex got married, her husband insisted on the song 'Better Man'..... which is about an abused woman resigning herself to staying in the relationship because she doesn't think she can improve her lot.

At my wedding reception my DJ overrode our request list and struck a few songs because they were about infidelity.

At Last by Etta James was our first-dance song. My wife thinks it has some amazingly deep meaning for us but I have zero connection to it. Other than the fact we were together for 9 years before getting married I have no real attachment to it.

My wife is way to over analytical of pretty much everything, so there was no way our first-dance song would be anything other than just love for one another. "You are the best thing" by Ray Lamontagne it was...

Ours was Shameless by Garth Brooks (written by Billy Joel)

That should set some folks off.

Ours was 'I'll Back You Up' by Dave Matthews...a song he wrote for the woman that rejected his proposal 3 times.

As to Cake vs. Beck...Beck for the entire catalog, Cake for individual songs.

"Every Breath You Take" is not a good wedding song. And stay away from anything off of 'Rumors', because context.

Our first dance was "Everlong" (acoustic) for reasons that are very personal (and inadvertently comical) to us.

That was also out first dance song. I also have zero connection to it. And we were together for 7 years before we got married.

I went with neither, but if you forced me to pick, I'd take Beck. I really dislike Cake.
