lol what a clown
Elon Musk has directed Twitter’s teams to find over $1 billion in annual infrastructure cost savings by cutting cloud services and extra server space, according to two sources familiar with the matter and an internal Slack message seen by Reuters.

The company is aiming to find up to $3 million per day in infrastructure savings, the Slack message said.
https://www.cnbc.com/2022/11/03/musk-or ... s-say.html
What are Twitter’s current annual infrastructure costs, and that percentage of that amount would be represented by $1 billion?
Doesn't matter.
The steep infrastructure cuts could put the Twitter website and app at risk of going down during critical events when users are rushing to Twitter to consume and share information, such as during moments of crisis or major political events, the sources said.

The social media platform is exploring whether to cut extra server space that is kept to ensure Twitter can handle high traffic, one source said.

"(Musk) is willing to introduce that risk to meet these goals," the person said.

The second source described the proposed cuts as "delusional," adding that when user traffic kicks up, the service can fail "in spectacular ways."
When Twitter starts crashing due to high traffic volume, how patient do you think users and advertisers will be?

Everyone is mocking Musk for demanding $1 billion in annual infrastructure savings. To know whether such a number is realistic or achievable—or is pure fantasy—would not one need to know how much Twitter spends on infrastructure? For example, if Twitter spends $2 billion annually on infrastructure, then a savings of 50% of that amount would be unrealistic. If Twitter spends $100 billion per year, then a savings of only 1% would likely be more achievable.

Twitter's TOTAL expenses for Q1 2022 were $1.33 billion, and Q2 2022 were $1.52 billion, so...

So that would be roughly $6 billion per year, and a cut of $1 billion would be a cut of 17% of of total costs and expenses. I agree that's total costs and not just infrastructure costs, and that cut would be a higher percentage of infrastructure costs, but considering Twitter's business, "infrastructure" costs are likely the major costs for the company. It's not like they're a manufacturer who buys steel to make widgets, for example. They run an internet site.

I find it rather hard to believe that the former executives and board would have been running unnecessary annual infrastructure expenses of anywhere near $1 billion (or at least 20% - 25%) while showing a loss of hundreds of millions per quarter and seeing the stock price halved.

None of this matters. I don’t care who owns twitter or instagram or Snapchat or anything else. I’m much more concerned about who might be talking in real life.

Maybe branch this off into a Twitter-only thread? It is pretty suffocating for anyone that cares about literally anything else.

Yeah, but it can't happen because everyone that doesn't care about this keeps posting completely random things about it...

"BREAKING: Twitter to offer free fruit to employees in breakroom: Apples, oranges, bananas rumored to be three of the five fruits."

Someone here that doesn't care: "Can you believe that fascist cuck isn't offering pears?!?! Steve Jobs had pears. Can you believe this?!?!"

0% chance that their infrastructure costs are that much.

I only recently created a Twitter account. I generally follow four sorts of people or organizations:

Libertarians and libertarian groups.

Pro-gun organizations.

Members of the legal community.

Artists who draw naughty pictures.

In 2021, cost of revenue + the cost of r&d + capital expenditures was over $3.2 billion for twitter

So yes I'm sure a lot of that r&d was not necessary, especially in a low interest rate environment like we had the past decade. Would be easy to trim a few shekels off that capex budget.

I never thought I'd invest time on a Thursday night dicking around reading Twitter's 10-k but here we are
