With control of the House and Senate still undecided, angry Republicans mounted public challenges to their leaders in both chambers Friday as they confronted the possibility of falling short of the majority, eager to drag Rep. Kevin McCarthy (Calif.) and Sen. Mitch McConnell (Ky.) down from their top posts as consequence.

The narrowing path for Republican victory has stunned lawmakers from both parties, freezing plans for legislation and leadership maneuvers as they wait to see who takes control and learn the margins that will dictate which ideological factions wield power. Regardless of the outcome, the lack of a “red wave” marks a devastating outcome for Republicans, who believed they would cruise to a large governing majority in the House and possibly flip the Senate.

McCarthy gives off the vibe of someone who would've been easily overwhelmed by winning a student council office. I'm entirely confused as to how he rose to prominence.

Mitch McConnell is one of the savviest political operators of modern times, and the GOP owes him a blood debt. The only 'mistake' I think he's made in power was not whipping votes for impeachment after 1/6.

Bodes well for GA. GOP can’t win the senate, so many might just stay home.

I had a **** GA Senate TV commercial during the Clemson game this afternoon. I don't live in Georgia.

It was a "Warnock is evil, more Hollywood than Georgia, votes with Sleepy Joe" but no mention of Walker. Interesting.

Also Democrats don’t need it, so might as well stay home. Bet it’s a super low turnout.

Yes. Manchin sucks, but he represents WV so I think he's supposed to...

I was really hoping for a long shot win in WI or NC to take Sinema out of the equation as well.

Agreed. Can’t just sit back and not worry about Warnock’s race. The less we need Manchin and/or Sinema, the better.

Looking at the GA results, there were a lot of people that voted Kemp and not Walker.

The runoff would have been around two things: control of the senate and Walker not being fit for the position. Now one of those is off the table. I’d bet if you ask the candidates whether they wanted control of the senate to come down to their runoff Walker’s team would say yes and Warnok’s team would say no.

Dems need that seat, especially with the 2024 map where they will have all their red state seats up (tester, brown and manchin).

Not sure how to read this race at all, can kind of see how you can read the split tickets either way. But it is obvious that the gop bloc is split, while the dem base is behind their candidate.

I think I saw that the electorate was something like r +2, so 2022 was not a turnout election, but persuasion.

Going back to that r +2 electorate. I think that tracks with a midterm that would have been a strong gop showing. An entertaining polling quip I saw was that the generic ballot polling was accurate in favoring a “generic” republican, but that’s more of a hypothetical because there were so few “generic” republicans running. They were all lunatics running on gender surgeries and teachers are grooming your children.

It was all a very bad feedback loop. The angry parents groups needed a new issue to rally behind when schools opened, went to crt and grooming. Things that are not actually a concern to normal people, and I assume believed these were winning issues because those were the things their online types (Shapiro, Libs is tic tok, James Lindsay) all wouldn’t shut up about. And that’s because they were using their online engagement as the measuring stick. And so then that feeds up to the Fox News types, who then take it as gospel because they probably just like framing democrats as sickos.

Mostly just really enjoying the show. And there’s a reason why that gop house account tweeting kanye.Elon.trump is so funny.
