Kristi Noem and catturd openly flaunting their dog body count recently.

More fodder for the right-wing failing to be normal observers

14 month old?! I assumed we were talking about a dog, not that it would be any better. But wow, what a piece of ****.

For the context

"Puppy was a danger to anyone" > "I didn't bother trying to teach it to not nibble on people so it thought biting was fine", or maybe "the dog jumped up on people because it was excited" or "I didn't bother training it and then got mad because it wS untrained"

SCOTUS really gonna come out and say presidents have full immunity?
No, they're just going to rule in a way that allows the Trump legal team to keep appealing things and make sure this case happens after the election.
Seems they were drilling down on what constitutes an official act of the president. They were disappointed that no prior court had tried to identify specific acts and rule in that manner. One Justice (Amy I believe) asked specifically about Trump meeting with a private attorney who was willing to spread misinformation about the election and did receive the answer of that not being an “official act.”

I would really like to have faith in our republic and fragile democracy we hold, however I don’t have that faith available. I’m also curious that if they rule Trump’s various actions were official acts then what stops Biden or any President from taking an official act to jail or assassinate their opponent due to any made up pretense they suggest? After all, at that point, it’s the President acting officially however erroneous the reasoning.

SCOTUS also expressed worry about their ruling opening up former presidents to be attack by opponents at will if said President’s actions aren’t considered official.

I see this being delayed, delayed, delayed, while they try to hone in on specific acts. To the point that this will not be finished by election time. Then, sadly, if Trump wins it won’t matter how the court rules or how any institution tries to hold him accountable. I truly believe if we end up with Trump in the White House again, the only thing that can stop him will be the military. If he gets their backing, I do believe this is how our current democracy will die.
We are not yet at the stage where we have to worry about a President assassinating political opposition (not yet, anyway). And I am broadly in agreement that the President should have fairly expansive immunity for official acts. But there are innumerable things that fall short of murder that can net out with the same outcome (e.g. neutering political opposition or even oversight), and I do not think much/most of what Nixon and his cronies referred to as 'dirty tricks' amount to official acts.

It has become increasingly clear over the last 5-6 years that while our Founders were rightly afraid of an unchecked executive (we had, after all, just embarked in an armed rebellion against a monarch), they were not really anticipating that such an abjectly wanton shi**t smear as Trump would even desire the presidency let alone win office. Our institutions are not strong and robust. They are a patchwork of points of failure whose structural integrity is defined by the individual wills of a surprisingly small handful of people.

Meanwhile, in Washington DC............................... I think Biden's dog got up to two dozen bite incidents before it was removed from the residence.

I'm a pretty lenient dog-friendly type of person, but I have to say that's like 20+ more incidents than most places would give a dog. The dog that bit me when I was a kid had one other bite incident a few months later and it had to be destroyed.

lol, I can’t imagine being this much of a spineless coward - which, if we’re being honest, is basically the entire identity of the Republican Party at this point.

I think it’s funny how these dogs are terrorizing his secret service detail. And these are the only dogs law enforcement isn’t allowed to execute on spot and they are the rare case where it’s a little justified

Some more regarding the USC protests

In a fit of bravery from which all of the world should take inspiration, the university has cancelled all commencement activities outright and the campus is currently in a state of quasi-lockdown.

If following a typical 4-yr track, the 2024 graduating class would've been the incoming freshman who had just graduated high school in the COVID-addled summer 2020. There are certainly worse problems in the world than getting hosed out of two graduation ceremonies through no fault of your own, but that kinda sucks.

My son took a semester off for his internship, graduated in the fall, and didn’t walk in the spring because by then it had been 5 months and why bother?

I also read where a lot of the protesters that have been arrested or kicked out of school are asking for amnesty so that it doesn’t follow them around for their adult lives after school.

Don’t know but 2 out of the 40 or so arrested at Vanderbilt have been expelled. So I’m guessing something more than just protesting

Vanderbilt I think was about a divestiture vote or something. The students/protesters were barred entry into a building, and a few of them barged past security; they're the expelled and suspended students. I don't know any details beyond that (or, honestly, if even that bit is totally accurate - there are a lot of campus protests going on around the country right now and it's hard to keep them straight outside of what's going on locally).
