What's the old saying? Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya?

Ben Carson on Friday took a page from Donald Trump's playbook by threatening to depart the Republican Party.

My guess for the GOP, Cruz gets the nomination as an anti establishment candidate. He loses to Hillary. GOP establishment takes the party back and runs Rubio in 2020 and wins thus making Hillary a one term prez.

What's Rubio going to do in the meantime? Get a show on FOX News?

Go make lots of money somewhere?

At some point these guys that are getting no traction are going to have to start dropping out, and establishment guys like Bush and Rubio will need to either be the guy or drop out. I bet if more guys would have followed Walker's lead, the GOP wouldn't be in this mess right now. Unless we're saying that the guy running on the fascist platform winning the GOP nomination isn't a disaster.

Put yourself in the position of GOP leadership. The recent focus groups have shown that you're not going to crack that 35% of likely GOP voters who will follow Donald Trump down the path to hell.

What you have to do is convince the rest of the field to solidify behind a single reasonable alternative (to GOP voters anyway).

Can they do it? Probably not. But from the GOP leaderships standpoint, it's the only way to keep the ship from sinking.

(Of course, even if you do that, you'd have to face an independent Trump in the general election).

They're F'd no matter what they do, if I were Hillary and Bill, I'd be putting the Chappequa house on the market now.

I'm really hoping for a brokered convention to stop Trump and Donald going independent in July.
That would be several tubs of popcorn worth of hilarity.

Nothing quite like watching a major political party disintegrate

I just don't see Trump running third party. The only thing he loves more than hearing himself talk is money. And I don't see him spending money for him to run as an independent.

You're assuming he'd be mounting a serious campaign.
Not a chance. He's spent almost nothing so far and I wouldn't expect that to change if he goes independent. He's a master at getting free pub.

And I'll say it again, he doesn't want the presidency. He'd have to give up control of the Trump empire. No way is Donald Trump placing Trump in a trust.

for the record, this is what I found on that story
TALLINN, Estonia (AP) — A Finnish court on Friday jailed 23-year-old twin brothers from Iraq for four months pending trial on suspicions they were Islamic State militants who fatally shot 11 unarmed soldiers in Iraq in June 2014.

so this happened in Iraq over a year ago. But yeah, it's all the damned refugees
