I don't know that such action necessarily rises to the level of a coup. It could be things as simple as refusing to carry out illegal orders.

I mean, I genuinely don't know what to expect. Now that the day has actually arrived, it is pretty surreal.

I'm pretty disappointed in the 60 or so Democrats in Congress that are boycotting the inauguration. I respect John Lewis' civil rights bona fides, but skipping it just sends a poor message to me. Eh, we'll see what happens. I am very interested to hear the content of Trump's inauguration speech.

Hey, if you want to take your chances with Mike Pence, a man that has the actual desire and werewithal to turn back the clock on social policies I'm assuming you support, that's your call. Social liberals really don't have much to fear at all from a Trump presidency.

I started reading Bush's memoir. Can't say I had dry eyes by the second page.

Weird to have voted for Bush and Obama before calling it quits since working and realizing this whole thing is a farce.

But Bush is an interesting guy. Like all of us he's been through a crap load.

Within the system I don't regret my vote. But overall I regret participating in the system.
I keep thinking my vote helped send Kaiser and his friends to war when they should have been in college or working. But whatever. Woulda coulda shoulda.

I was a huge critic of GWB by the time he left office, but I've become more of a fan of his since he left. He's basically done nothing but charity work since his departure, and he seems like someone that genuinely wants what's best for the nation. I think Obama is going to have a tough time making that transition to private life, TBH. He's leaving office at a much younger age (relatively), and his rise happened so quickly that his political career was quite short.

I'd like to see him get involved in the philanthropy stuff like his two predecessors did. GWB still does stuff like this on the reg, which is nice:

He deserves to speak to an empty venue. He doesn't deserve to be normalized. Boycott away. What are you interested in hearing, exactly? Do you want his generic disingenuous shtick or his piss baby schtik?

Only in recent days, after Bolivian journalists broke the story of Ms. Obama’s trip to Bolivia and Peru late last year, did the guides realize who had been in their care during a five-day trek. “She was very humble, chatty, spoke Spanish very well,” Mr. Mamani said. “She was mesmerized by the Bolivian landscape.”

Ms. Obama was afforded no special treatment during the arduous trek, and performed chores, including cooking, along with her fellow travelers, Mr. Mamani said.
