Single-payer legislation dead in California...for now

http://www.latimes.com/politics/essenti ... story.html
“SB 562 was sent to the Assembly woefully incomplete,” Rendon said in a statement. “Even senators who voted for SB 562 noted there are potentially fatal flaws in the bill, including the fact it does not address many serious issues, such as financing, delivery of care, cost controls, or the realities of needed action by the Trump Administration and voters to make SB 562 a genuine piece of legislation.”

Rendon took pains to note that his action does not kill the bill entirely — because it is the first year of a two-year session, it could be revived next year.

But the move is nonetheless a major setback for legislation that has electrified the Democratic party’s progressive flank.
Gov. Jerry Brown, who had signaled wariness about the proposal's costs, said in a statement that Rendon "made the case that there’s clearly more work to do before anyone is in a position to vote on revamping California’s healthcare system."
From another article, that pointed out the bill would save the state approximately $37 billion annually;

The committee’s analysis projected that the statewide plan would cost $400 billion annually, half of which would likely need to come from workers and businesses through a 15 percent payroll tax.

15%....damn.

Another reason to never live in California.

Thinking aloud here and anyone that wants to tell this gentleman that he is a moron is welcome to do so.

Why do republicans let themselves be cast as evil people because they want to cut Medicaid? Rebuplicans don't like Medicaid (in its current state) because it is unsustainably expensive for the federal government, right? If so, why doesn't anyone bother saying "hi, we are going to go broke if we continue to write blank checks to state governments for healthcare"?

Or is there something more to the story

He built Facebook HQ in East Palo Alto. It was once the murder capital of the US, and is comprised of a mix of landfill and reclaimed earth, all of which will liquefact and turn to jelly in the event of even a moderately large quake. There was a 25-year period where the only business that operated within the municipality was a McDonald's. So I maybe wouldn't follow his lead on where the sweet spots are.

Oh, and we couldn't find an affordable house there.

Literally every Republican that makes the cut argument - be it Medicare/caid or Social Security - says this.

I would be pleased to see large tech companies clustered in Iowa. Our country (or I should say the drivers of our economy) is too weirdly concentrated on the coasts.

Speak for yourself. I just went spelunking, saw fallingwater, went to fort necessity and went on a 20 mile bike ride along the yough River in the last 24 hours. On top of that I had a filet, bottle of champagne and a lot of bourbon. This country is awesome!

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Oh lord, Reddit is going to melt down. I thought there was something amiss with the two of them with her driving that one university into the ground. Can you imagine if Bernie Sanders was convicted of bank fraud? There isn't enough popcorn in the world for something like that.

There is no doubt he has presidential aspirations. That said, for as successful as he is, he is one of the most non-charismatic people I've ever seen speak.

From what I read about that case, it really sounds like Jane Sanders was guilty of fraud in some respect, overstating the donations to the school. That is a pretty serious felony. I don't think he'll be charged with anything, but if she were to get convicted, that would certainly hurt his credibility.

Do you realize how miserable life would be, if all the time you were fretting about all of the crappier aspects of our country? Instead of just living your life, being the happiest you can strive to be, and compartmentalizing (yet acknowledging) some of those things?

Oh...you do. :scared:

It's maddening when terror attacks happen, but I don't really think much about it in my day to day life. You can have opinions and thoughts about things, and even share them, without dragging them around like an anchor. You dig?
