I would say yes that’s largely dependent on the protest. We had two high school student organized protests in my area last week. Both peaceful, well attended, and with many people having good discussions. We need to have that age group maintain that involvement. I think the bigger the protest gets, the more likely the discussion is to get drown out by attention whores, but that doesn’t mean those people aren’t there.

Because it distorts the argument from a general, systemic level to the individual. Most cops are good people, it is usually bad ones the cause these escalations to violence and heightened tensions. But these good cops have to fall in line with their brethren, co-sign when they file bs police reports, and are likely pressured into keeping quiet to misconduct.

It’s not a racial litmus test, but it is a test of whether a person wants to debate on the merits or they just want to spit out vague platitudes and disinterest in the topic.

Isn't this kinda the problem with unions, in general? Or blind affiliation and loyalty to a single political party? It's not necessarily the bad actors within the group that are the 'main problem'...it's the circling of the wagons to defend or protect the bad actors regardless of the bad actor's individual ignorance, incompetence, viscousness, etc. that dirties the hands of entire group. It prevents change within the group from being implemented, or even discussed. The 'we're stronger united' mentality. Right, you are definitely stronger all sticking together, but you may not be better.

The issue seems to be Twitter being a bad platform to debate nuanced topics such as this one. It's very easy to isolate a lone tweet such as that and be outraged without knowing the context.

That's a decent example as well...but I disagree that it's human nature. Human nature for someone who's 'good' would be to distance themselves from bad actors, or actually confront the bad actors. Blind affiliations with unions, political parties, powerful organizations suppress that human nature, replacing it with an obligation to defend or align with the bad actors in an effort to remain a United front. You 'give up' your personal disagreement or disdain for the greater good, but, as we've seen, it's not always gooder.
