There's a part of me that doesn't understand why it's the county's responsibility to dictate to Kennywood how tightly it needs to close it's doors.

I have fond memories of Kennywood growing up, school days, etc.

I can't say I'm interested in going and staying at that park past about 6PM anymore. Just too much of an annoyance/risk.

Florida parents upset by Michelangelo’s ‘David’ force out principal
A Florida charter school principal said she was forced to resign this week after some parents complained about their sixth-grade students being shown images of Michelangelo’s “David” statue in class, with one parent believing the art lesson on the Renaissance masterpiece amounted to pornographic material.

Hope Carrasquilla of Tallahassee Classical School in Leon County, Fla., said she offered her resignation during an emergency school board meeting on Monday after she was given an ultimatum by the board to resign or be fired, according to the Tallahassee Democrat. The principal said she was not given a reason she was asked to resign, but believes complaints the school board received from parents over the lesson on the Michelangelo statue played a role in what happened.

“It is with a sad heart that my time as the principal of Tallahassee Classical School has come to an end,” she wrote in a Thursday letter to the school board that was obtained by The Washington Post.

Barney Bishop III, the chair of the school board and a lobbyist, confirmed to The Post that he gave Carrasquilla an ultimatum following complaints from three parents who believed the material on “David” was “controversial” and not age-appropriate for their children. Bishop, who did not say why he asked Carrasquilla to resign on the advice of the school’s lawyers, told The Post that there were several issues with the principal, including not notifying parents ahead of time that their children would be shown the Renaissance statue.

“She wasn’t let go because of the artistic nude pictures. We show it every year to our students,” Bishop said, adding that Carrasquilla “voluntarily resigned.” “The problem with this particular issue was the lack of follow-through on the process.”

Tallahassee Classical, which follows a curriculum from Hillsdale College, the conservative, Christian institution in Michigan that has helped launch dozens of “classical” charter schools nationwide, is required to teach Renaissance art to sixth-graders. The lesson featuring “David” also included images of “The Creation of Adam” fresco painting and “Birth of Venus” by Botticelli.

Carrasquilla acknowledged in the letter to the school board that she did not notify parents about the lesson before images of “David” were shown in class. The former principal noted to the Democrat that while two parents were bothered by not being notified, one parent thought their child was being exposed to pornography.

Her husband, Victor Carrasquilla, rejected the school board’s action in forcing out his spouse in a short phone call with The Post, describing his wife as “a strong evangelical Christian” who should not have been forced to resign.

The parental backlash over “David” comes at a time when the state’s K-12 and higher education is possibly being reshaped through a spate of new Republican-sponsored bills that have been championed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a potential Republican presidential candidate in 2024.

Forced to resign? Nah, either she was fired or resigned on her own. I certainly wouldn’t have let them bully me into resigning.

I feel like the university can just be like, no you can't use your chapter to do real life trolling.
A case for protecting the safety of students might be made but I feel like it's been quite obvious lately that the legal system would rather people incite a riot first and allow violence to occur and then punish them rather than restrict the inciting rhetoric that it knows is coming.
And we can add two more to the list of people who don't understand the First Amendment.

No, Pitt as a public, taxpayer-funded university cannot tell chapters what speakers they can or cannot invite. That would be discriminating on the basis of viewpoint, which violates the First Amendment.

No, the legal system cannot "restrict the inciting rhetoric that it knows is coming." That is called prior restraint, and it violates the First Amendment.

So basically any group of incel misanthropes can start a tp USA chapter at a university in order to invite the most loathsome public figures they can to give speeches, and because colleges get state funding, this is “constitutional”.

The constitution is outdated and not equipped to structure society anymore.

But they’re not doing anything violent. Yes… violence seems to end up everywhere they go. Ignore that. They’re not violent.

Not saying teachers and nurses don't have it bad but- lots of people have it bad.

Look into what it takes to make a living wage as a Social Worker. Mrs. F works harder than I do for 1/3 the pay, and had to do the same amount of schooling I did. I probably could be where I am without my MBA, she couldn't be where she is without her MSW, it's a requirement to get a Social Work job that pays enough to live on and pay back the debt you had to incur for your MSW. It's OK for us, she was in her mid-40s when she went back for her Masters' but I have no idea how someone would do it just starting out.

Teachers, nurses, cops, all (well, most) do great necessary work but there are many others doing great things for not nearly enough pay.

Oh… there are plenty of people out there that do too much for too little pay. It’s not limited to a handful of careers.

Mrs Bear married a sugar daddy engineer who didn’t have any of his own college debt. Even with that and two jobs through school we’ll only pay the debt off next fall, after 20 years

My gf just informed me that the cost of a 2-year program for an associates to become an x-ray technician now costs $22,000. By my estimation that is about $250 a month if you choose to repay it over 10 years for a job that generally earns about $23 an hour right out of school. $250+1000 in rent + $400 for a car payment doesn’t add up to a particularly comfortable lifestyle. So even the “affordable” track of an associates degree for a job field that basically guarantees a job right out of school still isn’t a gr8 option.

Or seems like an awful lot of work for one person to be singularly responsible for 60,000 of anything in a month.

It's a pretty obvious casenof the failing of the US Healthcare system though, by putting profits before people.

They don't want to pay claims, so they don't hire anyone to help deal with claims, which in turn means claims aren't paid...

Im surprised they even have a human denying them. If I was that doctor I would’ve written an algorithm that would automatically deny claims. 60,000 in a month is entry level numbers

Can we talk about how **** up it is that Trump is going to Waco for the anniversary of the psycho homicidal pedophile cultists (if your leader is a pedophile polgamist, then you're a pedophile cult, sorry) ?

The same cultists that inspired the friggin Oklahoma City bombing.

I mean sure, I am sure some Leftists talk about MOVE that way, but it's not like Obama went there to honor the anniversary. As a whole, we just grant so much latitude to the GOP to foment violence.
