I imagine someone (ya boy me) sitting at either of the heads of the table leaning on it making it loose over time.

I'm not a woodworker, but how would that even work if you notched both boards at the intersection? That joint shouldn't come loose like it could if you use two sections for one of the legs.

My grandfather had an outdoor, wooden table with an X pattern support legs like that. It was a circular table, but same idea. At the crossing, both members (I think they were 2x6's) were routed out to accept the other leg. They were connected using a couple carriage bolts.
The only thing that kept that table going on for eternity was it wasn't stained and eventually gave in to weathering.

the table would be rectangular, like this:
My thought is it would not be sturdy on the long ends over time unless I ran some serious bolts through the entire table top, which I don't want to do

If you're worried about the large span, just move the legs in a little more. You probably don't want even spans to ensure good stability, but maybe move the legs in to the 1/4 length mark on each side and you'll probably be ok.

You could always add bracing from the legs towards the center of the table, too.

The legs shouldn't be a problem. The table top is usually where issues arise. Make sure you take wood movement into consideration and only use kiln dried wood.

A couple weekend projects. First, a new tire rack. I'd bought one on Amazon that was made of metal tubes, but the flimsy plastic joints cracked and fell apart after a year or so. I made this from 2x4s and 2x6s using joist hangers and fence-post connectors. Not pretty, but it isn't going to fall apart.
Second, the 3" numbers on my mailbox post were fading and flaking (one can see the spots where they were), so I ordered a new reflective address sign with larger 6" numbers.

Hmmm, making it easier for the government to find you. Interesting.
I did the same thing a few years ago, in part because package delivery services kept going to my neighbors.

Removing crabapple tree… what’s the plan? Just chop it down? Do what with the stump then? Suggestions?
Home Improvement Thread
Is someone doing it for you? Stump grinding in my area costs about $200 each assuming it's not in a Rocky area.

Nope. I didn’t have a plan at the moment just know I want to get rid of two of them.

Most tree removal services will offer stump grinding. That's probably the best and easiest situation

Buy a bunch of lime if you have the stump ground down. It messes with the acidity in the soil and makes it really tough to grow grass above it.

I only use like 2 per year since we have a 5 inch filter...usually get ours off of Amazon in a 2pack.
Home Improvement Thread
I never change the filter. Mostly because we don't have any.

I find Amazon is the cheapest. Slick deals occasionally has them pop up at home depot. I must have a weird size. My size never seems to be in those sales (18x20x1)

I used to buy 12 packs of Rheem FRP4/Basic filters at HD, but they only seem to carry the 4-packs now, so I grab 3 of them. You don't need anything more unless you have allergies, IMO.
