I read a blurb about how Marvel's credits scene teasers create more films than they could possibly ever produce, which irritates fans and weakens the whole cinematic universe. I thought that was a little hyperbolic, but not too far off the mark.

At any rate, we're supposed to go see GotG vol 3 today.

Sounds like a disaster. Does this (and much of what came before it) boil down to Cherpak's quantity over quality demands or has Feige also lost his grip on things? I mean Quantumania was written by a dude from Rick and Morty who had never written a movie before and was preemptively hired to write The Kang Dynasty (he's since been let go). That's completely insane to me.

I'm a little over an hour into Wakanda Forever. Holy hell this is bad. I'm not expecting it to suddenly get better. And I've heard nothing but bad things about Quantumania. The things you do so you can watch Guardians vol 3...

I'm skipping both, but still plan on watching Guardians 3.

Quantumania got a bad rap. Maybe it's because I went in expecting it to be horrible but I was pleasantly surprised. It fits solidly in the "meh it's fine" category of MCU films, alongside such hits as Antman and the Wasp, Thor, and Iron Man 2. It's not offensive in any way but it's not particularly memorable either. It's a much better watch than Wakanda Forever, which for me falls in the "this **** sucks" category of MCU films along with Thor 2, Eternals, Black Widow, Thor Love & Thunder, and a few others.

Across the Spider-Verse was great. So many cameos, memes, much fun. Animation (and the various different styles) was top notch.
Didn't know another film was already announced and coming out next year (cliffhanger!)

You should. I also found it more entertaining than vol 3.

One particular scene in Across the Spider Verse
Was filmed by a 14 year old Lego animator. I assumed it was shot/created by Lord/Miller (the directors of Lego Movies etc., as well as this film)but nope - he also remade the Lego trailer for the film:

Impressive.

Other changes include a massive Marvel reshuffling. “Captain America: Brave New World” is moving from May 3, 2024, to July 26, 2024, which in turn is delaying “Thunderbolts” to Dec. 20, 2024, “Blade” to Feb. 14, 2025, and “Fantastic Four” to May 2, 2025. “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” is getting pushed back an entire year, from May 2, 2025, to May 1, 2026. It’s taking the place of “Avengers: Secret Wars,” which is jumping from May 1, 2026, to May 7, 2027.

I've done the unthinkable and started a complete (film) rewatch of the MCU. I'm keeping a list to rank as I go. I just finished Incredible Hulk, which is such a strange growing pains MCU movie. It definitely feels more like a pre Marvel Studios licensed movie. I was happy to read that Mr Blue and Betty Ross are returning to the MCU though, so at least those characters will be fresh in my mind.

Yeah, I just can't care about an Anthony Mackey led Captain America. Sorry.

Son of a dodint. I sailed the high seas for my watch a few days ago. Oh well. Now we're just missing Far From Home and No Way Home and the entire MCU will be on Disney+

Thor is better than I remembered. It’s not great, but it’s better than most of phase 4.

Finished phase one last night. There's a huge gap between my top 3 and bottom 3. Honestly, the top three are fairly interchangeable at this point but there's something about the first Cap movie that I love. The main thing that puts it above Iron Man for me is that I prefer Red Skull to Iron Monger.
Captain America: The First Avenger
Iron Man
The Avengers
Iron Man 2
Thor
Incredible Hulk

I can agree.

What's funny is I only watched through everything in the Marvel Universe once (just too much to go through again), but I remember Phase 1 really well, but then after that, it seems the firehose was opened all the way and I just can't really remember much. I mean I bet if I watched again, I'd be like "oh yeah".

Speaking of which, I started Wakanda Forever. I'm only about 40 minutes in, but it is just ok so far.

Watched all of Wakanda Forever this morning. I liked it. Too slow at times but much better than the first Black Panther. I didn't know who the antagonists were going to be and thought that was pretty cool. A few cool fight moments but could have had a few more. Some funny dialogue/delivery. But so slow. Lots of lion king wisdom around the fire which is what Wakanda is all about with ancestors but doesn't make for great rewatch value

Just finished quantumania. It was OK. Not expecting to rewatch it. Since endgame I've hugely preferred the tv shows to the movies. I watched most of them twice now. The only movie I watched again was Black Widow. I'll probably watch Thor again actually. Holiday special might be my favorite thing though

The first Avengers movie is so fun. I forgot about all of the fun Hulk stuff. Makes me wish we got a Mark Ruffalo Hulk origin film instead of the pile of trash that was Incredible Hulk.

Iron Man 3 is almost as bad as Incredible Hulk.
