Twisters is centered on Kate Cooper (Daisy Edgar-Jones), a young woman with a vertiginous history with a cataclysmic twister she faced when she was in college, and she’s been haunted by the experience ever since.

I'm imagining Quint's speech about the USS Indianapolis in this context.

That looks like a straight to video quality movie from that trailer.

Well see in the original, the meteorologists who were passionate about tornado research were the heroes and the corporate dummies who were just in it for the money not the science were the villains.

In this one it’s the opposite for some reason and the scientists are the bad guys while the cowboy who does everything based on feeling not science is the hero?

But didn't Bill Paxton literally sniff dirt in the first one to tell if it was going to happen or not lol

He was in it for the science not the money. I’m basing all of this on the cowboy shitting on their phds between his yee-hawing.

One of the dumbest scenes out there...

Everyone is talking all light over breakfast about F3 and F4 tornados...(tornadoes?)

"Oh, that'll relocate your house for ya...har-dee-har-har"

-- Is there an F5?

*everyone stops and drops their silverware*

That movie stinks...

Has there ever been a natural disaster movie that's "good" though?

It is what it is - dumb fun watching mother nature **** **** up. The rest is just filler.

my “favorite” of that genre, off the top of my head, is Day After Tomorrow, but that is definitely squarely in the “dumb fun” genre (why does the center of the storms insta-freeze everything?)

Don’t look up. Does that count?

Deep Impact, Sunshine, and Dante’s Peak could be considered “good.” But the most fun are Volcano, The Core, and Armageddon.

Twister is the herpes-riddled dong cheese of disaster movies.

It came up when I googled “disaster movies” but I wouldn’t count it personally because to me a disaster movie is more about how characters handle a disaster that has already or is happening. Versus Don’t Look Up which just kills everyone

I haven’t seen it in a long time but another one I would consider is A Perfect Storm. Which I’m surprised to see only has a 6.5 on IMDb because I thought I remember it being more well regarded

For the record, I love Twister and it’s silliness. It’s elevated by Pullman, Hunt, PSH, and The Dread Pirate Roberts.
