In a slight defense, I've seen some really ghastly proposals for rebuilding the cathedral (A giant greenhouse for a roof? Seriously?), so if I were in the same situation, I also might want to wait to see finals plans before I coughed up any money.

Wow. Three days a week is pretty surprising. Definitely a bad look for Pittsburgh.

I too love the feel of holding the paper and opening it up in the morning...the decline of print is sad indeed. I stubbornly refuse to read E-books or digital books because I love the feel of the real thing too much.

Agreed. The USCG was not a factor in my original comment. People that volunteer to get on a government maintained boat and go to Alaska are not risk adverse, imo.

Getting on any boat that can't see land is suicide to me.

So I was on the Acushnet. At the time, she was one of the *only* World War II era ships that was still on active duty in the US fleet. That venerable old hag took a damn beating in the Gulf of Alaska (30 degree rolls for hours upon hours), but she was impressively stout.

This is a picture of her at Okinawa during WWII:

I guess I'm on of the ones who sees no need for physical newspapers anymore at all. Can't say the last time I picked up an actual paper in 10+ years outside of the special editions when the pens won the cup.

My wife has subscribed to Entertainment Weekly for nearly the entirety of our marriage. Several months ago, she began noticing that every issue seemed to be a double issue. No official notice of it changing, just double issue after double issue. They would do this a few times a year, near holidays and for big summer movie previews and so on. Finally, they announced last month that it will be going to a monthly schedule...but still keep the name.

Rolling Stone did the same thing last year - they were bi-weekly, and switched to monthly.

Washington Post and the two major SC newspapers have raised their paywall levels substantially recently. As a former digital subscriber to the Washington Post, if I don't clear my cookies before visiting (and be logged out) I get pelted with resubscribe emails and blocked from reading content.

So at a time when we need more political engagement and more information, the top sources of such information are making it difficult to access that content. I probably will resub to the Post, but I can't be arsed to pay for digital subs for newspapers and other sources I read only sparingly.

There needs to be a Netflix for newspapers and magazines...and not whatever Apple started on iOS devices earlier this year. Mutliplatform only please.

Muncie Indiana currently has a cat problem... their animal shelter is having trouble keeping up with the number of cats that they're trying to find a home for and they are struggling to get enough cat food, litter, and paper towels. The answer? You can pay your parking tickets in cat supplies rather than cash. Interesting concept.

Feral cats are the worst. Insanely destructive to the environment/ecosystem.

Odessa teen arrested for spitting in Arizona Tea bottle and putting it back on shelf
Odessa Police arrested a 15-year-old boy for spitting in an Arizona Tea bottle and putting it back for someone else to drink.

An officer wrote in a sworn affidavit that they were dispatched to the Albertsons on North County Road West Monday night.

The affidavit states that security footage showed the teen pick up a drink, put his mouth on it, then put it back.

The affidavit goes on to say the teen told the asset protection manager before the police officer arrived that he spit in it.

The teen reportedly repeated to the officer that he took a drink of the tea, then put it back, because it was "gross."

He's charged with tampering with a consumer product, which is a second degree felony.

He's being held in the Ector County Youth Center.
Couldn't they have just made him buy the tea? One-time $2.50 charge vs how ever much money the municipality and state will spend putting this kid into the criminal justice system?
