Speaking of FaceApp, how do you all feel about it being run by a Russian company, with free reign to do whatever they see fit with your image (per the app download agreement)?

I am not down with facial recognition stuff in general, in the same way that I'll never have a voice operated widget on my counter.

I dunno... I've fully embraced the digital age. The era of total privacy is over.

What are they going to with your picture? They’re going to use anonymously it to cultivate their neural network. They aren’t stealing your identity. Anything nefarious could be done just by going on your public Facebook photos.

I actually agree with shafnutz and think the anti-privacy era will have a clear net societal benefit.

So I was on the Acushnet. At the time, she was one of the *only* World War II era ships that was still on active duty in the US fleet. That venerable old hag took a damn beating in the Gulf of Alaska (30 degree rolls for hours upon hours), but she was impressively stout.
Having been on a guided missile frigate and a flat bottom tank landing ship, I can vouch for those 30 degree rolls being serious **** business.

It's funny...I find the subtle, gentle rolls more nauseating than the big ones we were taking around Cape Hatteras and the Gulf of Alaska. Once it starts getting that crazy, your brain doesn't have as hard of a time getting up to speed.

Small price to pay, I mean, ultimately, some drug users had to make additional phone calls to acquire their drugs.

This has been floating around my FB feed recently, and on the local news. The district employees need to be flung into the sun.

A Pennsylvania school district that warned parents that unpaid lunch fees could lead to their children being placed in foster care rejected a businessman's offer to clear the debts, a Philadelphia CEO said.
After public backlash, the Wyoming Valley School District has issued an apology for threatening to put students in foster care over unpaid school lunch bills. The district also announced that it would accept La Colombe Coffee CEO’s offer to pay the $22,000 lunch bills after initially turning down Todd Carmichael.

“The Wyoming Valley West School District Board of Directors sincerely apologizes for the tone of the letter that was sent regarding lunch debt. It wasn’t the intention of the district to harm or inconvenience any of the families of our school district,” a letter on the school district website read.

Before the school district announced it would accept Carmichael’s offer, the La Colombe CEO spoke exclusively with Eyewitness News about having the school board president turn down his offer.

“They didn’t want a solution, which told me this isn’t really about money, is it?” Carmichael said. “This is about something different. This is about shaming people who are struggling.”

Call #2 to my district rep about the condition of a state-managed road near my house. The first time I called, they said that PennDOT would be repaving the entire road, but I received a reply from PennDOT later that said they would be filling potholes the next week. Neither has happened, and that was months ago. This is the first time that I've ever contacted a rep to assist with something, so I'm hoping that it works out. That road has eaten many wheels, two of my own included.

I totally thought you were going for "offer to buy that stretch of road and take it private, putting up a modest toll for pothole free passage."
