Postby slappybrown » Mon Apr 27, 2015 8:52 pm

Welcome NAN, willeyeam, Dick Dunn, skullman, KennethTKangaroo, TWC. Welcome TL, cheesesteakwithegg, and columbia. Welcome back to PBP.

Welcome, of course, to shad, c2i, SDD, THG and whatever PGHSkins is called now and the various other miscreants who support the best damn creamery in south-central Centre County, PA, who will spend so much more time in this thread than their own.

Welcome also to canaan, whose love of this nation's greatest Jobs for Felons back-to-work program is unparalleled.

Welcome to 5AF's Premier College Football Thread, where we discuss the 2015-16 Pittsburgh Super Panthers American Football team.

Farewell, Coach Comatose:

Former Head Coach Paul Chryst, shown above farting as the play clock expires

Hello Italian Coach guy who talks sh!t about UPS on the internet and so is my spirit animal:

Image
Pitt Coach Pat Narduzzi talks to the media using his hands, as God intended it

The schedule:

YSU - W - 30-10
@Akron - W - 24-13
@Iowa - W - 23-20
@VT - L - 13-35
UVA - W - 36-28
@GT - L - 17-22
@Cuse - W - 33-6
UNC - W - 42-39 OT
ND - L - 16-34
@Duke - L - 23-27
Louisville - W - 29-23
Nevin Shapiro A&M - W - 31-30

For a tidy 8-4 (5-3).

Key Questions:

1) Will KtK return to elite Pitt cliq status? He had an off year in 2014.

2) Can Voytik show an ability to move through his progressions as opposed to the current progression of 1. Boyd 2. Boyd 3. Boyd 4. Boyd 5. Conner in the flat.

3) Is Pitt it?
Yes, Pitt is it.
4) I have recently learned there is only one more year until Pitt-UPS resume their series. I did not know this.

5) Will the new AD try to rekindle the Backyard Brawl? Is there anything in it for Pitt to play a team from a mid-major conference like the B12? Seems like a no-win situation for Pitt.

H2P

Mark Dantonio is only 59 so Pitt might get to keep Narduzzi for a few years.

Narduzzi with a nice pickup last night, DE Dewayne Hendrix is transferring to Pitt from Tennessee. Hendrix got some PT as a freshman last year at Tenn and will be eligible in 2016.

Was a 4 star recruit, ranked as the 5th best DE and 78th best prospect overall in last years class. Offered by tOSU, Nebraska, UPS, Florida, and future 10 time consecutive national champion Mississippi State.

I'm just happy you have somewhere to discuss college football. Welcome aboard.

There's also chatter that woody high RB miles sanders is considering reopening his recruiting and flipping to Pitt from ups.

Chris Dokish and Chris Peak both have been talking ad naseum about the chatter in recruiting circles that Pat and the coaching staff are upsetting the apple cart all over the place.

The Brawl will be back soon. Both new AD's at Pitt and WVU are interested in doing it and they should. Hell, Pitt should play UPS and USPAM every year.

Liking what the staff is doing so far. Excited for the season. Offense should be fine, curious to see how the D starts to get better at least from last year.

I think this is dependent on two things:

1.) HCPN and OCJC realizing something that FHCPC never did: TEs are eligible receivers.
2.) A legit WR needs to emerge opposite of Boyd. Garner sucked. Ford seems like a legit WR. People that went to the spring game were raving about the spawn of Paul Zeise. Need one of these guys to step up and just catch the damn ball when its throw to them.

Pitt has an offer out to JUCO WR Rafael Araujo-Lopes and just picked up graduate transfer DT Mark Scarpinato. Worked his way into Michigan State's two-deep during his redshirt sophomore season (2013) and started two games. "Retired" after the 2013 season to focus on med school.

They need help on the d-line so it's fantastic he can play immediately.

The juco WR is apparently down to Pitt or Tennessee.

Pitt has the better QB and he would immediately become the slot receiver here. He'll make the right decision.

Thoughts:

Voytik threw the ball less than fifteen times a game the second half of the season...do you blame him for targeting Boyd over half the time with such limited opportunities?

This gentleman will try and fail to chime in more often.

This gentleman liked Chryst and refuses to go gaga over nard dog. Talking trash and wearing script and hitting the recruiting trail are great, but wins matter most. Kenny the kangaroo is curious too see how much leash Pitt fans give nard dog.

Good post Kenny.

The safest course is certainly wait and see, but, like Graham, Narduzzi seems to understand what it means to compete in semi-pro ball, unlike Chryst's platform of Disinterested Nonchalance. Unlike Graham, I don't think Narduzzi is one and done unless he would genuinely do something insane which is unlikely and would only make me happy.

I was probably one of the more vocal critics of Chryst amongst the Pitt cliq, but I wouldn't have lost my mind had he gotten a fourth year after three years of stagnation. I do think were better off without him though, because this coming year would have just been more of the same: another mediocre season of 5-7 wins. He wasn't building a program. He provided stability in the form of sustained mediocrity. Nor did he personally improve as a gameday coach IMO; he lost me for good after the duke FG debacle this year. He couldn't recruit and he couldn't put together a staff that could compensate where he was personally weak: recruiting and defense.

Maybe he figures it out in round 2 at wisky, but I'm glad it's on their dime.

Gallagher seems legit. On paper both Narduzzi and Barnes are winner hires.

All in all, Pitt fans should be optimistic.*

*Pitt will now go 2-10.
