The lesson here is to not give fully guaranteed contracts or contracts with monster buyouts. These schools deserve the economic pain for their stupidity.

I generally don't care about college sports, but this is an interesting legal question. Apparently, the PAC-12 in the past has enforced a rule wherein member schools who announced they were leaving the conference were immediately barred from voting. Oregon and Washington are arguing that under that precedent, they are the only two valid members of the PAC-12 board.
