It's really something. It was years of waiting and anticipating a Cole Taillon Glasnow rotation. Watching that get bungled three different ways is probably what led me to skipping a year of watching the team. And now out of nowhere to have Skenes Jones and Keller is something to behold.

If the World Series isn’t included, then no I wouldn’t be happy. Strasberg’s career was really good but there’s just too much “what could have been”.

Ok so strasburg’s prime was 2012 to 2019. He averaged 22 starts a year and 6 innings a start. Led the league in starts once and lead the league in innings another time. Struck a bunch of dudes out and had an era of 3.2 in his prime years


Would I want more from skenes? Yes. But 8 seasons of peak strasburg isn’t that easy to attain.

Right. The "what if" part of his career always looms large but he did have a pretty darn good stretch before the real injuries hit

Hard for me to get excited about Skenes. It’s lipstick on a pig.

Not even sure who’s to blame for the offense. I guess it all boils down to cherington no matter the issue: drafting, developing, hitting strategy, coaches…all on the GM. But you’d also have to say he’s done pretty well with the pitching. Bullpens have been good, one year rentals tend to pan out, some superstar SPs coming into the system (and Jones wasn’t even a first round pick).

Shouldn’t be surprised by this. Not sure how anybody has any optimism beyond individual performances. This is beyond a string of bad GMs, it’s rotten to the core.

I probably started losing all optimism early 2000s. That’s still 10 years of buying into the corporate BS the Pirates have been selling since 1993

Still a fair weather fan but we’ve been living in Antarctica for some time, save for a brief vacation 2013-3015

It's not even just being a pessimistic pirates fan. It's an MLB thing. Skenes isn't like a franchise qb coming in. 9 of the 10 hardest throwing starters are down with injury this year. And there's no chance of extending the guy. And bringing him up now rather than a few starts from now means he's got one less year here most likely.

It's not important enough to my life to get angry about the owner. So i put my head in the sand and just play by his rules with my expectations.

Everyone joked about them saying Skenes just needs to check some boxes. We all knew it was about super 2. But now it seems like they were serious. But that just means they're not being smart within their own context. They could appease some of us with smart management despite the stupid budget.

They've got 5 days for Bauer to decide if he's gonna stay. I hope they manage that asset well even if it's kinda small apples

Fair enough. I'm a casual watcher (won't even call myself a fan at this point) because I refuse to suspend disbelief. They've completely lost me. Tonight is the first time I've paid for a pirate ticket with my own money in about 8 years, and it's only because my son is gaining an obsession with baseball.
