So how does the skenes debut make everyone feel? He’s going to be on a very limited pitch count and there are few signs of this team getting better. But he’s still a gr8 prospect. Are you excited? Do you think it changes the outlook of the season? What do you think his numbers will look like at the end of the season? Will you be stalking the hotels downtown to see if Livy dunne is staying at any of them?

I am apprehensive because he is going to have to almost perfect to get a win with how garbage the hitting/offense has been.

I think he's ready and doesn't need to prove much at AAA, just wish his supporting offensive cast was better.

Do you think it changes the outlook of the season?

No. A pitcher coming in on a limited load for part of a season will not have a tangible impact on the standings. A guy like that could make a difference in the playoffs, but we don't do those here.

I'm kinda stunned how good he's been in AAA so I'm glad for that. Not because I doubted his arm but because it's the pirates and I expected the process to be more grueling. So I'm with ulf - just apprehensive. I don't have any concern about him getting a win. Just want 4 good innings or whatever so it's a positive event. It's really cool to have the top 2 pitching prospects painting with heat. Don't want it to strike midnight yet.

I want to be more excited about the debut but I just have no faith in anything here working out.

I think the outlook is changed in that the floor for this team has been raised significantly with the emergence of Jones and Skenes this year. Of course, that could collapse quickly if either of them suffer injury as there is not much help close to the majors with their upside. Oviedo and Burrows returning does not move the needle. Just makes it so they don't need two Perez / Hill type pickups every offseason.

They have completely broken all their batters right now, it's depressing. I don't get it, why do they do this **** with their players? So like, this idiotic focus on just pitch selection and contact quality has helped maybe Conner Joe? But everyone else is now a sub .700 OPS player? And the answer is to just keep doing this?

Need to see Cherington and Shelton shown the door. Just can't believe they didn't learn their lesson from the Hurdle / Searage disaster (with Cole and Glasnow).

Still very excited to see Skenes come up and start his career in the Majors. He's one of those pitching prospects that has the potential to be an entire rotation changer. A legit 1A Ace that allows dominoes to fall behind him. If Jones is a legit 2-3, and Keller remains a solid 1-2, this rotation can steal series throughout the year. You also may have 3 legit losing streak stoppers.

The hitting is pathetic, and I honestly think that the 'approach' has completely stripped any confidence from the hitters themselves. They look lost and defeated.......within the at-bat. It's weird to watch. But like most things in baseball, these things can be contagious (losing...is a disease) and confidence can appear just as quickly as it seems to have vanished. They do seem to feed off of each other, for better or worse, so a hot streak for one guy could help propel others.

Will be interesting to see if Skenes coming up injects some good vibes into the team overall. Great pitching can actually help relax the offense.

Or it's all gonna crash and burn. Jones won't make it out of the 2nd tomorrow and Skenes will walk his first 5 batters. In all honesty, that is the default setting as a Pirates fan. Any glimmer of hope is usually snuffed out by the black hole of reality.
