Management will be incredibly important this year. Both on the field and in the front office.

Lots of talent but how will it be deployed. From platooning to piggy backing to super 2 to dfa's. Timing is the key to these decisions and I don't trust the right moves will be made consistently.

So my 5 keys are

Starting Pitching
Cruz
Davis
Injuries
Management

Lots of yinzer outrage because Cruz and his career 550 ops against lefties isn’t batting lead off

Boys that AAA roster looks obscene outside of Skenes and maybe Gonzales/Piguero

I'm honestly shocked they're starting Skenes at AAA.

https://www.baseball-reference.com/team ... team.shtml

The HRs are quite exciting to see. Game 1 and all, but just for some reference this is a team that is basically always at a < 1.00 HR/G pace.

Pure chaos

Struck out 17 times, made the marlins staff throw 213 pitches. Bullpen with 5+ scoreless innings.

Why didn't Bednar throw

Bednar was unavailable to pitch Thursday against the Marlins due to ongoing rehab from a lat injury, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Bednar was sidelined for much of spring training with a lat issue, though he managed to make his Grapefruit League debut March 21 while making an additional appearance on March 24. He hasn't been placed on the injured list, so presumably, Pittsburgh expects him to be ready to retake the mound quickly.

How do you throw a baseball with a lat injury? Unless it's like a bruise rather than a pull.

That game went exactly how I was envisioning the season. Too many runs by the starters but the bullpen keeps them in it while the power brings them back

I was telling my wife this morning that MLB does this stupid thing where there isn't any games (or only 1-2) the day after opening day. How every year I go and get excited for baseball after that first game, and nope...no game. She looks at the schedule and says "The Pirates are playing tonight at 7PM." Good. I always hated the "day after opening day off" nonsense. Why MLB make me look bad with my wife? I do that enough without any help.
