So did I hear this right? The 9ers had that play (or a very similar one) already in their playbook, and Shanny said it was installed in the gameplan against DAL. But Kittle said he saw the DET game and got on the horn to the TE coach and was like "THIS CANNOT STAND" and insisted they run it against DAL if they had a chance. Like TE one-upsmanship, he couldn't let the DET rookie upstage him. Which implies that maybe the play wasn't on the install sheet prior to earlier that day.

Either way, it was a lot of fun. Like how The Beatles released Sgt Pepper and like two or three days later Jimi Hendrix opened his show with the title track - with Paul McCartney and George Harrison in the audience.

He said in an interview that they had it installed last year, and they tried to run it in the NFC Championship game but it didn't work cause they had no QB. I've blocked that game from my memory but he's probably right.

Then the Det play happened. La Porta is also an Iowa graduate, so that made Kittle call his TE coach earlier on Sunday to say he we need to run that plan and do it better. They did and it happened to be for slightly more yards.
