Started using the Madden podcast to listen to his show (if I want to) and it’s so much better than trying to listen live. Skip commercials (there are only about 3 per segment) and also able to skip to guests. Good stuff. It also illustrates that each hour there are about 20 mins of commercials.

Another writer out at DK, some guy named Alex Stumpf. DK has gone through so many people, he's hiring people I've never heard of before.

Stumpf is a good writer and a dude who made the jump from fan blog (Bucsdugout) to legitimate journalism job. Be interested to see where he ends up because he always seemed grateful for someone giving him a chance.

Val from DVE is off the morning show and moving to Star or something. Personally, I thought she mailed it in the past decade and rehashed reddit articles constantly.

Well yeah on the rehash. Isn’t all of that “news” just rehashed stuff? That had to be the easiest job. Hop o Reddit, top posts from the day or last week, there’s your content. She probably makes a nice amount of change to.Val from DVE is off the morning show and moving to Star or something. Right, I could see the need to refresh it up. Even if it was another person who brought topics, it was just relatively predictable seeing reddit and then knowing it was going to get made fun of on DVE.

People still listen to DVE or radio in general these days?

It’s a cycle. I’m already aged out of it. Something gains steam on discord, insta, whatever. Then makes it to Reddit, then to content aggregators, then to Facebook, then the “news.” And then everyone.Right, I could see the need to refresh it up. Even if it was another person who brought topics, it was just relatively predictable seeing reddit and then knowing it was going to get made fun of on DVE.
I’ll see something on Reddit and about 3 days later my wife asks me if I’ve seen whatever the thing was cause she caught it on tik tok or Facebook reels. I know I was already late to the party so my wife is a good barometer for the general public.
If people are listening to the morning show they most likely are hearing about those things for the first time.

I listen to DVE once or twice a week taking my kids to daycare for about 15 minutes, usually after Steelers games and I won't pick it back up until next season now. It sucks.People still listen to DVE or radio in general these days?

Got to meet Val during one of the South Side open Mini Golf bar crawls years ago. She was super cool and talked with us for probably 15-20 mins. Very chill and engaging. Also met Randy that year. He was....not. Although Val was in the fourth bar we hit, Randy was after 14...so that may have been more of a me/us issue than a him issue.

I listen to the Morning show during work on the iHeartRadio app usually on delay so I don't have to sit through the commercials. With not living near Pittsburgh, it helps me feel connected to the area still. I can also get sports news without having to listen to the Fan.

Yeah listening on delay or in podcast format really helps these archaic radio shows. Then you can skip around as you like.I listen to the Morning show during work on the iHeartRadio app usually on delay so I don't have to sit through the commercials. I hate on the radio if they tell you to "check out our website for more" or "check our Facebook page". I only listen to old school radio when I'm in the car taking the kids at school, so I can't really whip out my phone and browse their website and socials. Probably lots of other people are like that too. On the off chance I remember when I got home, I'm not going to anyway because its all stuff that is 1000 other places on the internet. Like with the Fan's "headlines" or the DVE news crap.

Just turned on the car and the first thing I hear is Pittsburgh Dad Jr. and zeise talking about hibachi
I’m lucky I didn’t pull a bird box and immediately drive my car into a pole to make it stop

Learned not long ago that Zeise is a person of color.
This was shocking to me because if anyone sounds like your white trash ex girlfriend's dad doing a radio show, it's Zeise.
IIRC, Zeise was adopted by adoptive parents who are not persons of color.
