Start chasing nurses dude. I've dated a few and I'm married to one and they've all been obsessed with vascularity in my arms. And my veins got nothing on you bro. All your woman problems will be solved.

Edit: they can probably help you with that high blood pressure too.
I love chatting up phlebotomists about my veins. They're impressive...but not Godric level. No sir.

Finished my first 5k today. Have been sick alot this week so didnt run as well as I wanted, but hit about a 10:30 min/mile pace. Not bad for my first time running outside. I know I can chop a few minutes off that time easily though next time with some more prep. Not as bad as I thought it would be, running near other people seemed to motivate me more to keep going.

Not bad at all considering where you started! Keep up the great work.

Between Wednesday at 7 and last night at 7:30, I did 120 burpees while working out. Honestly would not be sad if I never had to do another one.

Anyone else run any of the marathon events this weekend?

I was part of a relay team of coworkers and continued on to do the half marathon. I went pretty hard for the first 5.3 miles, then settled into a nice jog for the rest of it.

My wife ran leg 4 in about 1:00 flat, was 6 something miles. Her team ended up coming in at 4:44. She vows never to do the full Pittsburgh marathon, which is surprising to me because she doesn't normally shy away from hills. She was the captain of her cross country team at SVC, western PA terrain isn't a new thing for her. I think she'll run the half next year unless I get my ass back in shape then we'll do a relay together.

We put five teams in the relay last year, but only had four this time around. Still we raised over $10,000 each year for the Children's Hospital Foundation, so thats a big win.

Last year no team finished in under 4 hours, this year two did (including mine). The head of our department is a pretty strong runner and was the last leg on my team, so I wanted to go pretty hard to make that happen. When I jog to work I usually run about 9:30, and in a 10k I do about 9:10. During my 10 mile runs this spring I did them in 10:15.

For the race I did my 5.3 mile leg in 8:44, and averaged 9:49.

Interval Time of Day Chip Time Chip Pace
Start 7:39:21AM
4.4 Mile 8:17:23AM 0:38:02 08:39 min/mi
5.3 Mile 8:25:34AM 0:46:13 08:44 min/mi
9.1 Mile 9:05:15AM 1:25:54 09:27 min/mi
12 Mile 9:36:30AM 1:57:09 09:46 min/mi
Finish 9:47:52AM 2:08:31 09:49 min/mi

Your wife's leg would have been pretty flat, but in the second half of it would've been North Highland Ave in Highland Park, and that's a long uphill climb.

Yeah, her leg was fine but while waiting she moved around to see some of the rest of the course as has declared "F No" to running this full.
Her chip failed and the chip of the person that handed off to her failed so she doesn't know her chip time. She did use her Garmin though.

Just strained my back on a clean.

I think about how devestated I'd be if I seriously injured myself and couldn't lift anymore at times like this.

hyperextended three ligaments in my foot golfing about two weeks ago. Wasn't the actual golfing that did it, but collapsing straight down on my back foot on the follow-through thanks to some wet grass. Boot came off last week and I've done some very light running since.

Mud on the Mountain is in 2 days. You can probably see where this is going. I think I'm going to jog/walk it and not worry about any type of time. Kinda sucks because I'm at the lowest weight that I've been at in about 5-6 years, but I guess it's better to at least finish the run than to say "****, I really wish I didn't sit this one out."

I did 1.5 mi at lunch in around 16:00. Obviously no records being set, but it was more about if my ankle could deal with the repetitive pounding. Foot was a little sore for about an hour afterwards, which I'm assuming is a combo of some minor swelling and not running in about 3 weeks.

I'm still at about 75/25 whether I'm going to do it or not with the 75 being me jogging/walking the course. At the very least I'm making the trip to 7 Springs. Might as well claim the $75 shirt and free swag even if I don't run. :)

It wouldn't be much of a detour for me, about a half hour or so since I'd also be heading back home for Mother's Day.

Edit: game-time decision: as much as i want to keep my four year streak of MotM intact, I'm probably sitting this one out.:(

Edit part 2: I lied. I got to the start line, ran back forth a little to gauge how my foot would feel going uphill and decided to go with it. Really didn't bother me until about mile 7.

In hindsight, should I have stayed home? Probably. Lots of wet grass and downhill sections, which were both factors in the situation that I am recovering from. Needless to say, the pace I "ran" it at was much slower than what I was used to.

Went to the cardiologist yesterday and found out I've lost 16 lbs since Jan. 1 and you know how I did it? Eat less. Not eat well or even exercise. Just take in fewer calories. #science

All I did was stop snacking between breakfast, lunch, and dinner and cut what I did eat in half. That's it. Still eat fried food, chips.

Craziness.

It's absolutely true which is what is so maddening about the struggle. The answer is so simple, and yet I've never been able to adopt it as a lifestyle.

Drives me bonkers whenever people act like micronutrients don't matter.

Yeah okay if you're fat just cut back, you'll lose weight but if you feel like ****? Eat an anti-inflammatory diet, maybe eliminate things if you have stomach/gi issues, take some vitamins...

What I've done in the past (like, military time when I still had a metabolism) was work on training my appetite to accept the lower calorie count, then start subbing out my normal food with food that will help maximize performance.

Right now I'd be happy to master the first part again. I lost that 20lbs over winter and have put 15 of it back on with the move and my wife coming home. It's 100% on me, I just need to Get To My Game.
