Went to the cardiologist yesterday and found out I've lost 16 lbs since Jan. 1 and you know how I did it? Eat less. Not eat well or even exercise. Just take in fewer calories. #science

All I did was stop snacking between breakfast, lunch, and dinner and cut what I did eat in half. That's it. Still eat fried food, chips.

Craziness.
Yep. Lost 200+lbs this way.

Not saying you should completely ignore protein/fat etc as far as what you eat, but people think you have to crazily restrict yourself. Find what keeps you full. For some that is protein, for some that is fiber, for some that is fat. Eat a balanced diet with stuff you like to eat, but eat under whatever you calorie goal is to lose weight.

Also meal timing makes no difference as far as losing weight. Zero. It's personal preference. If you want to eat breaksfast.. eat it. If you don't ..don't. If you want to eat all of your calories in a 5 hour window because that is what works for you.. knock yourself out. Your metabolism is not on a clock.. it works 24/7. Eat when you want. I eat the majority of my calories in the evening. I almost never eat before 12pm during the week. Didn't effect my weight loss at all.

Calories in, and Calories out. No one is a special snowflake unless you have medical issues. That is how you lose weight, that is how you maintain weight etc. It's science. Period.

I went on a major anti inflammatory diet for almost 2 years. No gluten, no dairy, no alcohol, no fun, etc. also very little sugar. I can't put weight on anymore for the life of me. Not a scientist, but I feel like if you take care of yourself, you're less prone to fluctuations.

It's absolutely true which is what is so maddening about the struggle. The answer is so simple, and yet I've never been able to adopt it as a lifestyle.
yes. This. I try and try and try to muster up enough willpower to even start to diet. It's crazy. My mind/body just totally reject change. I exercise a lot. I just can't for the life of me change my eating habits.

I'm really glad I don't have to watch calories and what not. Don't think I'd be able to do it.

i dont think i really count calories, but im pretty mindful of what im eating on the whole. this week i have friends in from out of town all weekend. we're gonna be tailgating and drinking beer and eating junk food. thats a given. so im just gonna try getting an extra long run or two in, make all my lunches this week, and skip going out for the hockey game tonight.

My biggest problem is I can't eat enough because I can't cook enough

I just don't have time. I hover at 210 and I'd love to gain 15 more pounds but I just can't eat enough

I have done this, sometimes you just don't have time. I usually got the grilled chicken sandwich meal.

I joined a gym today, first time ever. I've love to drop 50 pounds by the end of the year if possible, but I'll be happy with getting more fit. I plan on starting the "Couch to 5K" program for cardio but I'm pretty clueless when it comes to anything with weights. Anyone care to tell me which machines to use, how many reps, how often, etc?

Do you have an Android phone? I like GymFrame as a routine builder/recorder.

First time I click on the Health and Fitness thread in like a year, and I'm getting poop.

I have an iphone. :(

And I don't care about running. Just looking for a decent cardio exercise. I did 15 min on the stairclimber and thought I might die. ;)

Godric, I feel like my shoulders are lagging behind my chest/arms and it might be limiting...you got some shoulder recommendations...?

Rowing is an exceptional cardio exercise if you want a strong workout that is low impact.

If nobody helps you I will write out my free weight routine and give it to you. Not going to write it all out just to have Godric burst in and confuse regimen and motivation and say it's dumb because I'm fat.

Cardio is for rubes.

There, I said it.
First post in this thread, btw.

The first stupid thing you said about it must have been on the old board and I won't be arsed to go find it.

It's not my routine so I wouldn't have taken taken it personally. ;)

It is adapted from the USMC lifting team, but I got it in 2007 and my logbook is at home. Maybe it's out of date, I dunno. Main thing is changing the weight for each set on most days. Reps are stuff like 7-5-3-7. I like it, stimulating both physically and mentally.

Has anyone here ever done a sleep study? There are a couple places not too far from my house, and I'm doing some initial research. I'm pretty sure I'm apneic, which is sweet; my wife has been on my case for a long time about snoring, but in recent months it has apparently gotten to the point where I'm apparently gasping for air while I sleep. Such fun.

I did...hated it. For starters, I sleep with white noise (fan, A/C, etc). Having to lay there in the dark, trying to sleep in a dead quiet room, with a ton of wires hooked up? Difficult. Oh yea, and knowing two people are watching me.

I lost about 40 pounds, and while I still snore, it's nothing like I used to. Booze doesn't help either. They wanted me to come back for a second study with the mask and I ducked out. That said, it can be extremely dangerous, make you way more tired at work, and eventually kill you. Get it done.

Last night, I had two glasses of red wine, a Vital IPA, and a Fat Tire. I woke up today feeling like I got hit by a truck. What has happened to me? :(
