Somehow, this doesn't surprise me.

He was never wrong, he could murder someone on 5th avenue and never go to prison for it. Trump aside, the justice system takes entirely too long, with too many appeals, and it's 100% weighted to the rich/popular.

I feel like every system in our society is weighted to the rich. It's one of the main features of capitalism I'm afraid.the justice system takes entirely too long, with too many appeals, and it's 100% weighted to the rich/popular.

Trump only has to pay $175M of his $474M civil penalty to appeal.

It’s hard because it’s an obvious situation where there should be consequences and the normal person walking the street wouldn’t be given any benefit of the doubt. A normal person would most likely be in prison awaiting the many trials that are pending.
We feel like it’s so close to the system actually treating everyone the same while knowing that’s not ever how things work. Then when it gets to zero hour and it just might happen that a rich grifter POS might finally get what’s coming to them the other set of rules kicks in.
I shouldn’t be surprised. Our country has long glorified people like this. As long as they aren’t grifting other rich people (see Madoff) then they’ll be just fine (see Belfort) and will be continued to be looked at as “smart” and “working the system.”
Oh well. Enough rambling. Trump is never going to face consequences and will die being a piss baby that always got his way.

There is some satisfaction in the concrete realization that a 'billionaire' couldn't come up with $400m.

Trump is basically "house poor." His wealth (the amount of which is subject to much debate, and has likely dropped precipitously given the current commercial-real-estate market) is mostly in the form of real estate, which is illiquid.
Bonds on appeal are for the purpose of making sure that if the appellant does not win, the winning party at trial will still get paid. Basically, they prevent the appellant from filing an appeal and then using the appeal period to dissipate / hide / transfer to the Cayman Islands all of their assets, so that when the appeal is over, the assets are gone and the appellant has buggered off to Qatar or Bolivia or some other country with no US extradition treaty. For Trump, it's not like he can ship the Trump Tower off to China, so the government still has assurances of getting paid in the end even without a 100% bond.

Trump said we’re gonna bring back crime to law and order, it’s over!

It happened on Biden's watch. I call it "Biden Trump crime".

It's honestly not a bad decision. For most people with illiquid assets having the whole world knowing that they have to liquidate isn't going to help the sales price and it'd make it increasingly difficult and a substantial additional penalty to have to sell on "short" notice.100% correct.Trump is basically "house poor." My position is that I wish Bob down the street who didn't pay his property taxes was treated equally, which I feel like doesn't happen enough.

Seeing Mike Gallagher give up and retire from Congress is such an indictment on the joke that is the GOP. He would have been an ideal Republican presidential candidate in a decade or so. Instead, he'll be replaced with another MAGA cultist
Politics And Current Events
The shenanigans that will ensue from his early departure might be entertaining. I gather because of WI law his seat won't be filled until the new Congress is sworn in. So from April to January, the Republicans are now down to what amounts to a 1-vote majority. (Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's no 'tiebraker' in the House like there is in the Senate. They just keep voting until a majority prevails.)

Trump stock, hot out of the gate in its opening day. At the current price trump holds approximately 5 billion in stock but allegedly can’t sell for 6 months. I’m sure shenanigans will happen around this at some point and Trump will get out squeaky clean with a ton of money.

Truth social booked $3.3 million of revenue in the first nine months of 2023. A $10 billion valuation is more than justified

More evidence that the Atlantic is a garbage publication.
Just a whiny turd student complaining about pro Palestine, anti-Israel sentiment on campus. Who just happens to the son of a nytimes national reporter

tbh that article doesn't seem totally unreasonable on its surface. but also it's paywalled and that's where my ability to care ends
