Year 1 sucks.

In the past few days I've noticed a muffled POP coming from my exhaust (only) when I start my car. Google says it could be fuel in the exhaust system. Anyone ever experience this?

Parked in the second spot at Aldi today within the lines.
Had to climb over the passenger seat to enter my truck thanks to the Rav 4 next to me who didn't seem to comprehend the lines.

Some vehicles with 'unique' styling grow on you with time. It is to the point now where I see at least one Cybertruck pretty much every day, and they are still such ghastly things. lol

Speaking of cyber truck. I should try and get my $100 deposit back

Speaking of terrible parking, I entered a crowded parking lot tonight (Memorial Day Weekend in Myrtle Beach n'at) and saw a minivan perfectly centered in two spaces. I parked next to it in an adjoining space. When I got out of my car, I noticed it was a mobility van with a handicap placard on the window. OK, that's cool. You need clearance to get the ramp out etc. The elderly driver took notice of my longer than normal glance at his van, and apologized profusely, and then gestured to a car parked in the extended area in the lot's only van handicapped space. Not in the handicapped space mind you, just the area around it that clearly means no parking.
So this poor guy and his wife had to park further away because of some Ubereats driver's selfishness (or ignorance). Ugh.

Good news: I finally found an alternator for the unexpected project car that I bought last year.
Bad news: I wasn't expecting to pay almost $400 for it. At least it's a 95 amp with a warranty instead of the 35 and 45 amp alternators that were showing up. I also found a bunch that were a fraction of the price, but really didn't want to roll the dice on "untested" items that were pulled from a car from the 70s.
Once I get that installed and replace the battery so it's finally drivable, I'll start chipping away at the interior.

Sitting at a light this morning, and there is a train currently in the next intersection over, so traffic going across us is basically stopped. Light turns yellow for them, and the person sitting back at the light pulls up and completely blocks our lane (the only lane that goes straight), right as his light turns red. Well, thankfully he had his windows open, so when I pulled right up to his door and left my hand on the horn until he moved forward he got an earful.

Ouch on the pricetag, but hurray that it'll be able to hit the road soon.Good news: I finally found an alternator for the unexpected project car that I bought last year.

If my car is ever stolen, my first stop will be the local car wash. The guy who runs is tries to buy it from me every time he sees me, and loves the car. Dude has been giving me discounts for years, lol.

Soooo....I was bullshitting with my neighbor in the yard while doing chores today. She is the neighbor whose husband was killed in a motorcycle accident a week after they got married, he was a family friend of my wife all her life (we live in my wife's childhood home).Someone stole the license plate off of my TrailBlazer. That is super tedious to deal with...
The not knowing who or why is going to annoy me for some time.
The neighbor broke down and admitted that the adult daughter of the man who was killed (and childhood friend of my wife) had a deadbeat boyfriend hanging around a few years ago. The boyfriend needed to drive back to Idaho and didn't have current registration, so the daughter told him to sneak over to my house in the middle of the night and steal a plate from one of our cars. He chose the TrailBlazer.
Stealing the plate off of a truck belonging to an attorney specializing in automotive-related law probably wasn't smart. I reported the theft to the state police barracks, mostly so my plate can't be used on the turnpike.
A month later the guy got pulled over in Idaho and was arrested, partly for driving with stolen tags.
Karma, it do exist.

And you were never notified?
i guess they see the plate as more state property.

Nah. It has no value to me so why bother me with it.
They'd probably only contact me if I had to testify if he ever got charged here. It's unlikely he'll be leaving Idaho anytime soon

This lane splitting thing in CA is unnerving if you're not used to it. Just had a crotch rocket pass us in the double line median for the HOV we were in at about 90. Yikes.

Motherf**ker, I find it unnerving.
To be clear about 50% of what you see any given day is illegal....or I guess I should say "not expressly legal". They're not supposed to do it over 40 or 50 mph and they are supposed to keep to a <10 mph speed differential. Truth is, any time traffic slows down you'll see bikers dipping into oncoming lanes or riding on the shoulder.

That places a lot of trust in every single car around you, which is nuts to me.

It's incredible to me that California knows everything about every product that could possibly have a .00000001% chance of being dangerous but allows that.
