lol. It was soft serve from a vendor inside the ferry building and it was top shelf.

SF was a great walking city, primarily because of the weather compared to where we live. We started at one Ghirardelli shop for ice cream, and ended up hitting another one at the end of the day. Good times

“50s in the morning” does not sound like perfect weather lol
when I went to Monterey Bay to see the US open at Pebble Beach in 2019 I was amazed at how chilly that area got in the middle of June. It was low 50s for most of the weekend. Not sure if SF is affected by the same weather patterns but that really surprised me because I assumed it was gonna be hot

The single best ice cream I've ever had was a special release of Mexican chocolate with ancho chiles from Humphry. It wasn't just the best ice cream, it was one of the best things, generally, I ate in the 2 1/2 years we lived up there.

Jealous. We're going to head down there over Veterans Day weekend to visit some friends that live near Colington.

Nice, and Colington is a new one for me. Looks like a nice area, sound side.

My wife and I got married at the Bodie Island lighthouse. We spent our first night together at the Colington Inn BnB so it has a special place in our history. Several years later a friend of ours took a job as a town manager in Duck and bought a house back there on Colington Island and we having a standing invite to stay with them so we plan to take them up on it ihis November.
It's a neat little niche because it's a real neighborhood and not a row of condos.

We had the most bizarre VRBO/airbnb experience this weekend.
Our original rental house was sold a few months ago, and the new owners are no longer renting it. We had to scramble to get a house for parents' weekend, as hotels in and around Clemson were going for $700-900 for two nights (and these are Holiday Inn/Days Inn type joints, not the Waldorf-Astoria lol).
So we got one about 30 minutes away, which was fine. Nice little town that had a few local restaurants (which were really good), and the distance was fine. The house itself was immaculate - probably the cleanest rental home I'd ever been in.
The owner required copies of our driver's licenses and charged us $40 for every additional guest past 2 people, as a cleaning fee. Weird, but OK. Still very reasonable.
She had a decorated basket of shoe covers by the front door. Like were we supposed to wear shoe covers in the house we were paying $180 a night to rent? There was no mention of it in the manual (yes, manual) for the house. We are all shoes off indoors people anyway, but still...
The owner lives down the street and after we got into the house, she wanted to check us to make sure everything was OK - but she wouldn't come in the house and was doing a weird distance thing. Evidently, she has severe allergies and probably a little OCD action.
The stay was fine other than the weirdnesses, and hopefully we get the damage deposit back We've had really good luck going this route for almost 20 years now, and this wasn't even a bad experience, just a weird one.

Hmm, sounds like some **** went down in that house in the past. Natural? Supernatural? Who can tell...DigitalGypsy66 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2024 11:32 am She had a decorated basket of shoe covers by the front door. It is odd to me yet somehow nice that a place like Breezewood features quite prominently in my childhood memories.

Wow, that's the end of a loooooooong era.
When we used to drive to DC/Baltimore from Altoona, my mom would take 30 from Bedford to Breezewood to avoid the toll. I think she was onto something, that 15 mile stretch is awful.

Every time I drive through Breezewood I imagine they must elect a mayor every term whose only quality is to reject the turnpike’s idea to fix this mess of an interchange. Guess the mayor lost this time.

Is there more to Breezewood than just that small stretch of horribleness?
