Anyone ever watch the 1994 classic The Stoned Age?

This is awesome. I get why they didn’t go with it but damn it’s a cool to see.

Moana 2 feels like a classic direct to video Disney sequel. It’s no better or worse than Cinderella 2: Dreams Do Come True. Generic adventure, rehashes from the first movie, and I can’t remember a single song. But it made a ton of money, so bring on the trilogy.

We started the LOTR trilogy with our daughter today with Fellowship. Man, I was getting emotional several times during, it's been about a decade since I've watched them as I've been waiting to watch with her. So good

Just watched it Saturday. Could not give two hot s**ts that Michaels didn't meet Zweibel 15 minutes before air, the essence of the meeting - at a bar, joke notebook, $7/joke, etc - is true enough and it serves a better story to show how cobbled together the whole thing was. Honestly, I had a harder time buying the idea that the network still went with the live show after a light rig nearly crushed talent than any of the factual fudgery they employed with characters and timelines.nocera wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2025 10:47 amYeah interesting is a good way to describe it. It’s wildly inaccurate. While most of it happened at some point during the first five or so years, the first night wasn’t that action packed. A lot of the stories were taken from the Live from New York book. But yeah the casting was incredible and having the film be in real time added to the tension. It’s worth a watch as long as you don’t get too caught up in it being accurate.DigitalGypsy66 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2025 9:04 am Saturday Night was...interesting. Some excellent casting choices, like Dylan O'Brien as Dan Ackroyd and Matthew Rhys as George Carlin. Nicholas Braun was cast as Jim Henson and then Andy Kaufman when one of the Safdie brothers dropped out at the last minute.
My main issue is the sound mix, where the music/soundtrack buried the dialogue. Some of it is intentional, to build tension while they are trying to put together the first episode of a 90 minute live sketch show and they used "live music" on the set as the actual soundtrack. So when Billy Preston (played by Jon Batiste) is doing a soundcheck, it's the actual score during a scene. Obviously, a full rock/soul band is loud etc.
Definitely worth checking out, and it's well under 2 hours.![]()
A couple gripes and other observations:
- The expo dump scene between Rosie and Aykroyd played odd
- I didn't care for the way Jim Henson was portrayed
- Jane Curtin was the Han Solo of the original cast
- Matthew Rhys is good at pretty much everything
- Andy Kaufman's hand coming into frame to drop the record needle down on the Mighty Mouse 45 was *chefs kiss*
- Milton Berle was actually known for randomly doing.................that.

Jim Henson’s portrayal and how he and the muppets were bullied was probably one of the most accurate parts of the movie.

Watched Pacific Rim again. There's nothing bad about that movie, it's just a 2 hour flow of good times. What a wonderful popcorn movie!

To Live and Die in LA is now on Amazon Prime. I have not seen that film in decades, since the late 80s when we had Cinemax. It's very 80s, with a killer soundtrack from Wang Chung.

Yeah, I saw the name in the credits and wondered if it was the old man.
I love seeing LA back in the 80s, too.

Watched this with my daughter last night, we were both deep in our feels at several points. Agreed, the score was outstanding.nocera wrote: ↑Wed Jan 29, 2025 9:44 ameddy wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 7:55 amSimilarities are definitely there, but it didn't take away from the movie at all. This was one of the better movies I've seen in the last year and well worth checking out. With everything that happened to losing my brother and now my daughter is preparing to go away for college, the theme of loss really hit home for me. The animation is beautiful as well. Don't miss it.

Saw it last night. 15 of those 30 minutes being more Margaret Qualley naked would have made it about right (dirty old man, lol).AuthorTony wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2025 4:15 pm I feel like there's a big difference between films aiming for awards being 150+ minutes long and something like IT Chapter 2 or the comic book movie of the week. Popcorn movies should be 90-100 min max.
Also, fwiw, I thought The Substance was 30 min too long.
We also watched Heretic. Pretty enjoyable. Great job making Hugh Grant's villain relatable. Interesting that both female leads are former Mormons IRL.
